I'm possibly moving to VA from CA and was wondering about registration for a S13 with SR20DET motor. I know that if a get a smog check from CA that I can show that smog certificate to VA DMV for registration if it's within 1 year. What about the yearly car inspection that VA does? CA doesn't do that, so we only have a smog inspection every 2 years (like VA). Any trouble getting smog certificates or car inspection in VA? Thanks!

what part of VA? They check if you have a cat though.

ive never been checked, ive always had a testpipe

It depends on where I get a job. It's either going to be in No. VA or Richmond. I have a test pipe and wouldn't say that my car sounds stock either. No cat and Apex-i GT Spec exhaust, so even with the silencer it's pretty loud. Good to hear that they're not so strict on the inspection because in CA, they'll find any excuse to get you off the road. What does the inspection consist of and in the future is it easy to pass smog?

Inspection is safety oriented. Tire depth, brakes, lights, etc. You'll pass.

where in VA? If you move to northern VA, you need an emissions test (sniffer)

Yea, there are some counties that run a sniffer test, check www.dmvnow.com , I think they have a list of those counties. If you live in a safety inspection only county like I have my cars registered in, then it's just the safety inspection.

It seems that people that live in NoVA have to go through the emissions test. How do people get around that? Has anyone passed an emissions test with a SR20 motor in NoVA?

most of us are just renagades of the law.

i've seen some pass fine with all OEM emissions equip on their car.
