UCR Entomology Brown Recluse Myth

you may or may not have to deal with hobo spiders, though. and black widows in socal. we have those too, which is awesome. my parents have a shed of black widows and a house of brown recluses. BITCHIN'.

That map isn't accurate. We have plenty of Brown Recluse here in NC, as well as Black Widows, and many other poisonous pests.

Those Japanese bugs fights are a little sickening to watch. I generally don't like watching any creature kill any creature for fun. If those battles happened by random chance in the wild, then so be it...but just for human entertainment...its questionable. But...considering the bugs are already dead and I won't be able to prevent them from dying...I'll watch anyway.

Anyway...the Giant Japanese Hornet has one big advantage over most of the competitors on the side...it attacks everything. Naturally those Hornets will instinctively kill anything that moves. Although the hornet's venom is extremely deadly in itself, it also has the mandibles that can rip apart smaller bugs pretty easily.

Pitting a bug like up again venom less mantises, spiders, and beetles is like putting a boxer up against a cop with a tazer. Not only that, but aside from the armor and strength, beetles don't really kill larger insect prey...so other than protecting itself...it really doesn't like fight. Neither do mantises...

The Hornet will go nuts no matter what. It only knows full aggression. There is no off switch.

The only reason the scorpions and centipedes win is because they've got really wicked venom and all it takes is a single bite or sting for it to take whatever.

Some of the crawfish vs beetle and numerous other fights were laughable...I'm not sure even the Hornet could kill a crawfish yes they declared the beetle the winner...just because the crawfish/lobster/shrimp thing backed down.

We're not supposed to, but sometimes they get trucked in with vegetables and crap. I knew a restaurant manager that found one in the kitchen... he was worried he was gonna get fired if anyone knew that he "let" it come in with the supplies lol.

My Mom got bit by one in Virginia (was on a trip for work) and her ankle got so swollen like a watermelon, srsly. She slept for over 24hrs, had us all real scared. Now she just has really nasty spider veins down there lol.

I was at my cousin's house and we ended up passing out, we wake up about 2 hours later and my cousin has to blow his nose. When he blew he looked down and notice it was a black widow. soooooo nasty.

There are only a few spiders I'm afraid of... which the brown recluse and the camel spider. I got 2 bites on the back and one on my right butt cheek this week... SOB oh well... here's a pic from Negishi Japan. ENJOY!

Fuck spiders, I scream like a bitch and have the wife kill them for me. The fuckers are after me, they hang out in my bathroom. The other day I got in my car right after dark and I was about halfway across base when a fucking softball size spiders comes running across my hood, I flipped the fuck out and tried to roll up the windows as fast as I could but my hands were shaking. I got them up and the fucker stopped right in the middle of my windshield and just stared at me. The only thing I could think to do was hit him with the windshield wipers and knock him off. I was fucking scared shitless, I HATE SPIDERS!
