Brockway Engineering

Model R920

Digital Vehicle Sensor Monitor. The R920 is essentially a digital multi-gauge that plugs into the diagnostic port on most 1996 and later import vehicles and displays real-time engine data on it's 2-line LCD. The data is communicated from the engine ECU and accuracy is ensured by the OBD2 protocol. Through the selection of one of 9 different screen modes, the user can monitor up to 2 parameters at a time. Robust circuit design for reliable operation in extreme conditions.

SCREEN MODES

Parameters

STFT (Short Term Fuel Trim) %
CLV (Calculated Load Value) %
RPM (Engine RPM)
IGN (Ignition Timing) °
TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) %
MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) kPa
MAF (Mass Air Flow) g/s
ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) °F or °C
IAT (Intake Air Temperature) °F or °C
O2 (Oxygen Sensor Voltage) v
A/F (A/F Ratio)
VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) mph or km/h
BAT (Battery Voltage) v
EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) °F or °C (only available when the EGT1 is connected)
MPG/KPL (Economy) Miles Per Gallon or Kilometers Per Liter
FR (Fuel Rate) lbs/hr or cc/min

Features

• One custom screen mode that allows the user to select the data displayed.
• Speed and Temperature can be displayed in Metric or English units.
• Reads and clears diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) and turns off check engine light (CEL).
• Displays boost on vehicles equipped with MAP sensors or the AP1.
• Calculates and displays fuel economy in MPG or KPL.
• Calculates and displays fuel rate in lbs/hr or cc/min.
• Adjustable vehicle speed correction.
• Displays A/F ratio on vehicles equipped with an OEM wideband O2 sensor or an external wideband sensor.
• A/F ratio conversion for early Honda/Acura K-series engines.
• External sensor input from a wideband O2 sensor, AP1 MAP sensor or EGT1 exhaust gas temperature sensor.
• Programmable shift light output. Can also be used to control the AT1 Auto Timer module.
• Acceleration timer. (with optional AM1)
• Adjustable ECT alarm.
• Simple Plug and Play installation with included Data Link cable.
• Premium automotive grade reverse contrast green LCD.
• Case dimensions: 6.5"x2.75"x1".
• Single DIN mounting kit (MK1) available.

Shift Light - adjustable from 3,000 rpm to 9,900 rpm in 100 rpm increments. Output can drive an LED shift light such as the IND1 or SL3.

Acceleration Timer - completely automatic and no calibration required. It resets when the vehicle speed is 0 and starts counting as soon as the vehicle starts moving. Once the vehicle reaches either 60 mph or 100 km/h, it freezes the elapsed time. This result will remain on the screen until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. With the aid of an internal accelerometer to detect vehicle motion, the R920 achieves exceptional accuracy. Once triggered, the R920 tracks the VSS to determine vehicle speed. It is very repeatable and excellent for checking the affect of a vehicle modification.

External Sensor - one external sensor input which may be used with a wideband O2 sensor such as the LC-1 from Innovate or SM-AFR from PLX, an AP1 MAP sensor or an EGT1 exhaust gas temperature sensor. Vehicles not factory equipped with a wideband O2 sensor can plug in a wideband O2 sensor and have A/F ratio along with other sensor data. Vehicles not factory equipped with a MAP sensor may want to use the external MAP sensor to monitor boost pressure.

how is any of that good for most of the cars on here that are pre-96 save for a few koukis and Z/G owners. Get something that works for OBD-1 diagnostic ports.

It says it fits most import vehicles. So does it fit the 98 240sx?

Yes, both the R920 and the R2000 will work on your 98 240sx. These units will work on 96 and up vehicles. All you need is to make sure your car has a diagnostic port for it to plug into and you will be good to go. As of right now they will not work with SR equipped vehicles. In the next couple of months there will be a new unit coming out that will work with the non obd-2 cars. This one will be SR friendly. We are working right now with Brockway Engineering on a pre order for this unit a month before it is released, so please keep your eyes open for that announcement.

Interesting tool. Question I have a 1996 OBDII S14. I'm planning on bolting up the Greddy turbo kit on it. Will this device read boost pressure right of the bat on my car or will it need extra plug-ins etc.

Also how much for the din mounting plate?

Thanks!

Allow me to answer that.. in order for anything to be monitored on a car, it requires a sensor right? Does the KA come with a boost sensor? No. Does the Greddy kit come with a boost/pressure sensor? No. What the device from BE does is displays the signals going to the ECU. If the car does not come with a sensor from the factory, it can not possibly display it.. you'll need something else to do so.

Eagle 5 I sent you a pm back.

DJ Sunrise pretty much answered it.

So if you are going to need this to monitor the boost and your car dose not have the sensor for it Brockway Engineering makes an accessory called the AP1 that will allow the r920 to display and monitor your boost.

Basically a MDM Techtom for newer cars!!!
Now, will rock if I can wire external sensors to specific parameters, IE boost from a MAP sensor, O2 from external wideband....etc
Also....will it work on older 240sx? a 93 perhaps?

PM's sent.

To answer your question pr240sx, You can wire for external sensors. The only thing is that right now the units only has one sensor input. If you want to hook more than just one sensor up, there is a way around this. You can wire the sensors to a switch system and then you can flip the switch to monitor each different sensor(boost or a O2 from a wide band.) The other thing is if you do this you can only monitor the sensor that is on one at a time. Brockway Engineering is working on some new units that will have more than one sensor input, but these will not be out for at least a year. As for this working on your 93 it will not, unless you are running an obd 2 setup. In the next few months Brockway will be releasing a unit for non obd 2 cars. We will be doing a pre sale on these a month before the release date. Hope this helped.

Damn that shit is ballin.

Can you wire the required inputs directly instead of using the OBD diagnostic port?

^ Probably not because it's just reading off the OB2 port = OBD2 protocol.

DSD: With an externally wired / additional sensor, is there an interface to specify the name, units, and a voltage->units conversion scale?

NemeGuero: you can wire the required inputs directly if you want as long as your car is obd 2 and is a vehicle that is compatible with the unit. If your car is obd 2 let me know what it is and I can let you know if the Brockway will work with it. Unfortunately not every make and model is compatible with these yet. Within the next six months to a year you will be able to use this on any kind of car. Hope this answered your question.

Mello88: No user selectable units or scale. What is it that you would like to add? If you let me know then I can ask Brockway Engineering and maybe they can come up with something for you. I hope this answered your question.

Yes, the new one that will be coming out soon for the non obd 2 cars will be sr friendly. I believe that they will have 2 units, one like the R920 and the other like the R2000. So one should be in the same price range as the R920. As I get more info on these, I will keep you all posted and as soon as I get a release date I will be setting up a pre sale a month in advance.

i'm guessing the model that is SR friendly. are for those who have swapped over the wiring completely so they can have full use of the diagnostic port once the SR has been swapped in. IIRC most people don't have the SR wired up completely to have full use of the diagnostic port.

If they do not have it wired up completely in that case, they can just hard wire the unit to make it work. If for some reason some of the sensors are not wired up that the unit reads then those sensors will not be displayed until they are hooked up, but all in all the sr friendly units will work just fine for all users.
