Vq35 s14 coolant temp reading hot

I tapped the temp sensor near the vq water neck near the stock coolant temp but my reading on the gauge is way to high.

I'm using a s14 ka coolant sensor to run the s14 temp gauge in stock cluster .

Is mr car over heating or does the stock vq normal operating temp higher than the s14 gauge and s14 ka temp sensor?

The stock vq's will run ~200-210* I can't remember what ka's normal temp sits at but I believe it's ~180ish? The newer aluminum engines run really hot compared to the old iron blocks. Best answer I've heard is it's to burn hotter/better for emissions.

Thank you for that answear. I wired in a 2005 Altima 2.5l auto gauge cluster and was able to view the rpm and temp gauge. You are right that the vq does run hotter.

S14 stock temp gauge reads high at normal operating temp for the vq motor. This is using the ka temp sensor.

This is the Altima gauge cluster and the coolant temp is reading normal. Both clusters are wired in at the same time when both photos were taken.

Now another question is does anyone know if the s14 gauge cluster have an adjuster for the temp gauge or could I use a resistor to bring the temp gauge down on the s14 cluster.

Thanks
Lee

"VQ35DE into my s14" Build

Check out page 3 of my build. That was a very simple fix to the coolant temp gauge lol. I like it because it is accurate, and gives exact numbers as opposed to an H and L
