s14 Help fresh SR swap. clutch? tranny? flywheel? wtf?

Hey everybody!! this is my first post on Zilvia fourms, wish i came here before when i didn't have car issues. but cant ask for everything eh =/

My issue.
well, it all started on easter, having a lil bit of fun, driving the sr20 harder then normal, etc.. swap just got completed about 2 weeks ago, no problems.. then it started.. when i wold shift gears, the rpm's would freelance they're way magically to higher * unnecessary high* rpm, 5-6-7, even when shifting at 2-3500k as if slippage was occurring. the car had a swap done by my friend who has done 10+ SR,RB series. it was an automatic 95se 240sx.. converted to SR20DET redtop manual 5pd the donor car was my friends JDM KPS13. anyways, back to the slippage, what ended up happening, was it started to do it more and more, the clutch when stopping+going in traffic would almost seem as if all the clutch work while driving was *almost* happening automatic, if i put my foot down ease up on clutch and give gas to go, however what was happening is i could depress clutch, release quickly while giving gas and it would not stall etc it would take off fine, as if the clutch was working by it self SORT-OF. so a few hours went by, i get in to drive and all of a sudden what happens is, im about to take off, i depress clutch, feels nice and springy like it should then, i get ready to take off, then the car doesent move at all, rpms to thru 1-2-3-4-5 and im not moving anywhere i should be moving by this time. car will not move, in any gear, also when i get into a gear and let go of the clutch the car does not die. even though it was previously automatic and i dont need to push clutch in to start car. the car should definitely die when i let go of the clutch with no gas in gear. reverse worked longer then gears 1-5th; but soon stopped working as i backed it into my friends driveway for the night..same issue. car wont move when in gear, rpms just scale up and car will SLIGHTLY move itself maybe 2-3 inches when i should be fully moving at normal speed!. also. clutch pedal is still springy. once again the car is a auto to sr 5 speed conversion. thanks.

lets see some feedback.
thanks alot,

~iammikeol

Replace the clutch

Pedal stiffness has nothing to do with your clutch life

SR coo

thanks, i had a few people come take a look at it, they said the same thing.
i got another problem.. its a double whammy.

so, the sr20 was overheating, now... its a 240sx 95 SE with a automatic KA, to manual SR swap. so what we did was take out the thermostat, it made a little difference, but still, temp goes up wen i smash out and hit boost?

i have oem radiator, with oem cap and oem shroud. still overheat. thot it was headgasket,(OILS fine, i do have a valvecover gasket leak though, radiator fluid is up to level, no bubbles in overflow rad..) but took it to a shop they tested it. and said it was the clutch fan. infact he stuck his hand in there wile on idle.. would that be the problem, or are they just not all that strong fans when on idle..? the man suggested E-Fans, but why would a all stock oem'd out sr20det overheat??

Does your car sound like a UPS truck when it warms up? IF not than your clutch fan is broken.

maybe you could rephrase that for me? because my car never sounds like a ups truck. just a sr20det...and he says he runs hot.

How hot is hot? Do you have a aftermarket gauge? How do you know that its running hot and not a faulty gauge or air in the system.

Question k

i dont know, i been looking for a friend with the laser temp tool so i can drive hard look up the normal op temps and compare.

is taking out the thermostat harmful to the motor at all?

im using a SE 240sx cluster, with stock temp hooked up to a redtop sr20det custom harness..

not sure if its reading correctly..
but, TEMP wont go up on idle, or when car is driven at night softly...
hotter days = hot temp.

my friend, the one tat did the swap said its a close reading but still incorrect..

anymore suggestions?

i dont want to risk overheat, warp block. etc.
thanks.

Isn't the S13 SR20 water temperature sensor not compatible with the s14 cluster? I thought that the output characteristics are different than the S14 SR20 sensor, and when the S13 sensor is used with an s14 cluster, the gauge reads high temperature when the water temperature is OK.

Yes the temp sensor has to be matched up with the cluster you're using.

intresting. now where getting somewhere.
redtop in an s14 would cause that issue. but its strange how the temp reads, almost as if it is accurate because temp will only incline when stepping on it hard and hitting/keeping full boost.

you think it would be dangerous to just forget about the temp reading issue..

motor does seem hot to touch, but not *to hot to touch*
etc...

what would be the case of my weak clutch fan, (tech being able to shove his hand into moving clutch fan at idle and stop movement) that was his excuse for saying it is weak and not cutting on the cooling..
