RB RB20det Headgasket and timing belt

I am rebuilding my RB20det from my skyline and putting it in a 240sx when i get to the states. im just curious what everyones oppinions are on what the best headgasket and timing belt to use are. I know i want to go 1.2mm on the headgasket.

Thanks

im in the middle of doing the same thing.

best head gasket i donno . i might be going with cometic but im still undecided . if you want the best head gasket then go with tomei . but make sure you take your block and head to the machine shop to get plained

as for timing belt im going with a greddy belt .

i heard that you didnt have to take it to get plained if you stayed with stock 1mm or went to 1.2mm, anything over that then yes.

is this not true?

How much boost do you plan to be pushing? If it's nothing crazy i would just stick with the OEM head gasket.

to be safe to insure no leaks from the headgasket it is best to plane both surfaces. a metal headgasket wont conform to shit thats warped .

I see, im probably planning on running 1 bar to 1.2 bar, i think the head and block should be fine. seeing as i pulled it out of my old skyline that had 105k Klicks, which is like 65,000 miles.

I also have 256 tomei cams going in it.

If your not going more than 500hp the best HG is stock. It can handle the HP and won't leak.
The RB cometic has been known to leak even when the block is deck and the head milled.

get OEM for both. i dont see any point in spending $100+ on a timing belt when u can get an OEM one for $40. also for the headgasket, aftermarket ones are known to leak

Hmm, im not a huge fan of oem, unless u can convince me otherwise. i dunno. i was thinking more towards either a tomei headgasket and timeing belt or a greddy headgasket and timing belt.

I'm just more in the mentality of hey ya know im already here, heads off. Have the of money, Why not?

if you have the money, go for it i guess. but like i said, theres not really a point. personally i wouldnt want to have to redo a head gasket from buying a shitty gasket. but its your car, time and money. sounds like you already had your mind made up before you started the thread

per say, i had a somewhat firm idea. but just wanted some other opinions, But both tomei and greddy gaskets are nowhere near "shitty".

How much power are you looking for?
Not many good options for the RB20 intake manifold. You can try making an adapter to accept the RB26 itb's.

I dont really have a specific number in mind, just going with

bigger fuel pump
injectors
headers
cams
Maybe bigger turbo
boost controller
tuned

in not looking too crazy, maybe 300-350hp

You really don't even need to touch the head for your desired HP. I've had Tomei and GREX HG's and they were both a pain to seal right. I had to TQ the arp stud nuts to 85ft lbs for them to seal.
I have an OEM gasket on my RB25 now and it's held fine up to 22psi with a 62-1. Also a 1.2mm HG is going to lower your compression on an already low 8.5:1 RB20.

Reason for the headgasket is cause the head is already off, im shipping it back from japan in pieces. =)

so im just looking to upgrade while its already apart. Thats why i bought tomei 256 cams for it.

1.2mm will lower compression. but a bigger turbo or new compressor wheel should fix that.

Like he said im sure i can find torque specs from the maker somewhere.

Hmm...i dunno

Nah, you should be TQ'ing the head to the mfr specs of the studs/bolts, not to a gasket spec.
Either way just make sure the head and block is super flat, super clean and use copper spray on the HG.

i dont think so. even if you could i wouldnt recommend it. normally you only want to use a head gasket once, once u unbolt the head the pressure is off the hg and might not seal up again
