ka24e timing chain rebuild. replace front cover?

I have a 90 coupe that has a VERY loud timing chain. something obviously out of wack. I work at a nissan dealer (not a tech or mechanic) and when showing one of our service advisors my parts list, he said the only thing left out was the timing cover. He explained that it has water veins for the coolant that get worn down on cars with bad chains and needs to be replaced. Does this sound correct and in need of replacement? or really just not needed?

you need to take the cover off to know for sure if you need a new one or not. the chain only wears a hole in the cover if its been flapping around with broken guides for a long time.

a junkyard motor i got had broken guides but the cover was still fine...

If you can't find a new cover like i couldn't, i ended up laying a nice bead of tig welding over the scrapped part of the cover.

You'll end up finding one probably though, cause thats only my luck
