How old are you?

Past Vehicle experience?

What made you choose the 240sx over your current Neon?

Intentions for your 240sx (i.e. Drift, Drag, Autcross, Wangan, Show Car, etc., etc.)?

It's great that you're planning on doing research before buying a 240sx. The Tech, Installs, and links sections as Zilvia will help a lot. If you're really stuck, feel free to ask for help. There are a lot of resources here. Welcome. Post some pics of your car when you get it!

Unless you like the KA, then we havn't quite covered enough IMO.

Welcome to the board.

Drift show DO NOT go together. VERY rarely can they coincide.
Drift usually goes well with, curbs, trees, guard rails, and body damage.

Two things:

1. Drive very very very carefully in the rain or on wet roads. A RWD car can be a very dangerous and unpredictable thing, especially to inexperienced drivers.
2. Never assume you are experienced enough of a driver.

Cool welcome to the forum... The 240 is a decent car, at least it's RWD and there are gobs of performance upgrades out there. I suggest you buy a 91-94 model, as those have the DOHC engine (KA24DE) and have a slightly revised nose. I bought my 90 for $1100 and my 92 for $2300, so if you're lookin to spend about $1500 to $2500 the 240 is a good buy. Always check the kbb.com price before you purchase anything since many people will try to jack up the price a lot. www.craigslist.org is a good place to look for a 240, as well as here and NICO (nissan infinity car owners).

This place is alright, it's just that there are a lot of insecure ricers who think they are god's gift to the 240 and that they know everything about anything and they'll jump on ANY opportunity to flame you. It makes their 2.5cm penis hard to hate on someone's car on the Internet, something I'll never understand... So before you ask anything make sure you search around, since 90% of things have been asked or talked about at least once on here. And please don't turn into one of those assholes

BTW, 240sx > neon, since RWD > FWD... You'll love the car and you'll never want another fwd again.

As far as your drift/show dreams go, uh, as said above drift != show. You'll hit curbs, spin out and wreck your body real quick. But that said you can make a very functional daily drifter that looks showy in it's own classy, functional way. But a 240, put some swaybars and coilovers (don't even worry about increasing power until you can get some good drifts outta the stock motor) and you'll be a happy man.

Welcome!

Daily Driven with ultimate goals of drift and show -- CaptainNismo, the n00b.

D'oh! Here's what you should have said:

I want to start by fixing all the neglected things on the car. Then I will add suspension... slowly. I will start with the small but important things: sway bars, bushings, struts (AGXs NOT coilovers) and moderate lowering springs. I will also invest in a set of used wheels with the proper offset. I like the look of flush wheels. The maximum diameter of the wheel will be 16" and the width will be 8". I will postpone a brake upgrade until my car and myself are more worthy; for this reason, the wheels will clear Z-brakes and coilovers.

After a full year of learning this setup on the streets and autoX, I will begin to modify the engine. This will, at first, take the form of an intake and an exhaust. The KA is a great engine if you let it breath. I will be satisfied with my newfound power for approximately 6 months. Then I will consider a motor swap or turbocharging for the venerable KA. I know how antagonistic you are towards 'bandwagon' jumpers, so I will consult with you, in-depth, on this most-important decision.

After the motorswap is complete, I will move onto the body/aero. Whatever I do will be tasteful and will not disgrace fellow 240sx owners. Again, I will look to this forum and Fresh Alloy for guidance in paint, sideskirts, etc.

Eventually, I hope to have built a car that meets with your approval as both a track and show car.

Thank You,

Yeah, it'll give you plenty of knowledge on cars (if you don't already have it) and lots of practice.
There pretty easy to work on, you just need small hands sometimes (getting a bolt stuck in the intake manifold where all the vaccum hoses are is a b**** to get out, and I don't have a telescopic magnet; get one if you don't already).

Theres online FSM's, so download one of them, they help to.

People say don't bother with a Chilton's, I have one, and I like it, its helped me before (mine was also free).

Expect to put some money into it. They are old, and if its a stick, then its probably been abused.

Anywho, good luck with the search. Hope you find something nice.
