off brand race seats

has anyone bought some off brand seats to save some $$? i really want seats but I am not OK with paying 800. I see a lot of $200 sets on ebay and wonder if anyone has purchased any of these, and what their thoughts are.

Yeah that's a great idea to cheap out on a piece of equipment vital to your safety in any sort of crash.

And you make it sound like every name brand seat out there are safe. Have you seen how well Bride does in an actual car crash?!?! There's a reason there's no such thing as an OEM Bride seat. Recaros on the other hand...

FIA or SFI as long as it has a rating. I wouldn't use a seat that didn't have a safety rating. Its like riding a motorcycle with no helmet or the old tin cup as a head piece.

But you have to take things here lightly, they bash knock offs like no tomorrow

Cheap seats FTW!!! Don't buy nice, safe, tested, FIA approved, race/crash proven seats....that would be stupid.

Find a legit used seat. I know a few people running the eBay brides and the quality isn't that bad. I'm sure you could find a sparco or something in the f/s section on here that fits your price range.

Corbeau makes nice seats for ~$300 and the Sparco Sprint series are in the same range. But people don't consider those since brides are the trendy thing cool kids have.

You could even get Corbeau Clubman/Forza, Sparco Sprints... all $200~ish seats that are FIA approved.

i really do not reccomend fakes, I witnessed a friend crash into a wall at a track day and the seat bent up and really hurt his back. I am talking about Chinese/ Taiwan fakes that go through no sort of safety standards.
That being said there is nothing wrong with locally produced bucket seats that have the required approval. Doesnt need to be jap branded to do the job.

Haha just saw you beat me to it! I also think Corbeau even has a few reclineable seats for around that same price... I'm going to assume that's what you were looking for, as I rarely see anyone looking for the fixed-back Brides.

If safety is ANY concern you, buy used FIA approved seat or at least an oem seat from another vehicle (most likely recaro). I personally will never ride with someone with fake seats in case an accident occurred. Nor would I want to get sued by a passenger if they were injured due to faulty seat. Is up to you.

As said above, there are a few threads that discuss the lack of safety associated with knock off, cheap aftermarket seats.

The Corbeau seats are good value for the dollar, but note that they are as heavy as the stock seats. The Sparco entry level seats run in the low $300 range and are very strong, unarguably the best value in that price range.

Cobra seats are pretty good. They are priced decently as well.

There are SO many legit options. Sparco, cobra, race tech, I personally prefer recaro, but hell, even a pair of r32 gtr seats is pretty damn comfy and will hold you pretty well.

How can people build cars and not know what fia or sfi is...

Get a kirkey race seat, very affordable and built to crash into a wall at multiple Gs

Bought some knockoffs once, put them in and under full throttle with a stock KA they bent back a little bit, just think what they would do with a better motor, and/or in an accident?

Save money, look fashionable, and die. Buy knockoffs!

Why not buy one used seat at a time? Easier on the pocket and safe.

why are you in such a rush to get a seat? save up the extra 400/600$ or so and do it right.
