tire ratings and size on s14

so i have been spending a lot of money lately on my s13, and my s14 needs new tires. so i went to pep boys and tried to get the cheapest tires. then, they told me that the s14 needs at least V rated tires, which are pretty expensive. and they said it's illegal to put on anything less than a v rated tire on there and they wouldn't do it.

so my question is, would it really matter if i got s rated tires on there? also, can anyone tell me what's the widest tires i could go on my stock rims? i currently have 205/55/R16 stock Toyo ones on there right now.

lies all lies
i had H rated for the longest time, that was a totally stock car and daily drive only

this is what YOU need to do
give them your tire size (205/55/16 or whatever it is) and tell them i want 4 tires in this size, what do you have?

DONT get bs'd into the 'your car must have this and this' line beause they are trying to make money off you.

they are LYING to you

order it from tirerack.com what you want and then take it to a shop (not pep boys) and get it mounted and balanced for cheap. 'mexican' shops are the cheapest, make sure they ahve a electric balancer, i always feel uncofortable w/ that old school technique

Illegal? No, tire installers are generally stupid.

Don't go wider than 205 on the stock wheel. It won't work well.

What's your tire budget and demands?
