Super Autobacs in Garden Grove

I was driving on Beach Blvd yesterday trying to find a mobil. Anyways as I was driving I saw a new Super Autobacs store. I had to look twice, and I drove over to it. The store is huge! It looks exactly like the ones you see in the pictures from Japan, and has a gigantic service bay as well. I don't know if this is old news, but I thought it was very interesting. "Car lifestyle store" is what they called it, and it seems very nice. I know in Japan the Super Autobacs stores carry very high end stuff (HKS, Tein, JIC, etc...) and I just hope we don't get the watered down version with APC products and such. Just thought it was cool and was wondering if anyone had any info on when this place will open up??

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say your from Long Beach Cali, instead of Long Beach, NY where this information would help.

Yeah, there have been rumors for the past two years or so, and spy shots of the construction-in-progress appeared on some boards several months ago.

The pics from Honda-Tech

The store is NOT in Long Beach!! It is in Garden Grove. I believe thats Orange County but I'm not too sure. No I didn't get a chance to go in, they weren't finished. The service bay was totally open with A LOT of tires up against a wall and I snuck a peek in there. Seems like a very nice store in terms of looks.

Boro: what type of APC type stuff does Super Autobacs sell in Japan??

Dorifto you live VERY close to me. I'd really like to check out your car, especially the R33 wheels on your fastback in person. Yea I live close to cherry, a little more towards downtown.

PS ~ When I went there, they WERE accepting applications, you should go look into it.

Ok guys - time to cut the crap.

-How many of the people talking about Autobacs being like Pep Boys have been to Japan and been inside of one?? Well its very easy for me to tell who hasn't because some of the stuff you are saying is all wrong. Let me set you folks straight, because I don't like people to sound silly.

-Yes Autobacs has "car dressup" stuff. Everything you imagine and more for the interior of your car.

-Yes Autobacs has a Performace section.
NO it is not like PepBoys BECAUSE when you walk into that section you see Volk Rims, Tein, Cusco, NISMO, etc rims and parts (e.g., HKS turbos) on display.

-Who is the main sponsor of the JGTC? No wait -who is JGTC? Well it's called the Autobacs JGTC.

-Who participates in all divisions of Japanase raing including F3? - well Autobacs and its employess like my friend Kyosuke who drove F3 with them - check out the pic:

So I hope this helps. The Autobacs I go to that my friend Kyosuke works at is a very small one too (and it still has all those on the shelf performance parts) - I can't even imagine what the bigger stores are like - so much more.

Hope this was helpful.

Brendan-Its rare that a small Autobacs is so performance-oriented. Where is it located? I would imagine if it is on the outskirts, or near a track or touge it would be like you described. However, the one I went to in Tokyo was pretty dress-up, and the rims were NOT Volk, Advan, Work, etc... It consisted mostly of colored lightbulbs, bubble shift knobs, air freshners, car badges, some wheels, some tires, and some oil filters and such small parts like that. Nothing performance oriented... there was a garage that had 4-5 lifts and lots of tools where guys would work on their own cars (they could rent a lift for a certain hourly rate and use the tools) that was about 3 times the size of the store. Anyway, after talking with some friends, the main performance Autobacs is called Super Autobacs. That is the HUGE store locations that have used and new parts including full coilovers, GTR Bride and Recaro seats, Used and new wheels like Volk, Work, Advan, Panasport, SSR, R34, 33, 32 GTR wheels, aerokits, exhausts, LSDs, as well as all the other small items. These Super Autobacs are, what i understand, usually the only Autobacs store that carries those kind of performance parts.

Maybe your friend's store manager or something sees the local patrons more performance oriented than most locations...

Last time I visited, there was a Supra with a RB26DETT getting some work done on it. Lol. This was also parked outside for the week:

Shop is in Hachioji area. There was an Upgarage close too. Thats where I picked up Dousan's Nardi steering wheel for him.

Caress is another large scale auto related store that I went too. Huge - all the best stuff - suspension, brakes, rims, tuning shop, etc.

Just to add my .02.

I was at two different Autobacs (not Super Autobacs) while in Japan and they had plenty of the performance goodies to go along with the dress up stuff too. ...and at the risk of sounding "jdm," most of the dress up stuff that they have is a bazillion times cooler and more functional than the Pep Boys tuner LED love fest that is all over the place here. Gadgety little holders for drinks and phones, cool little lights so that you can actually see things in your interior, fat rear view mirrors (that should be standard on all cars) and a host of other stuff.

Hopefully they're open by the time 8/31 rolls around so I can check it out for myself.

I have been to several Autobacs and have always come away with a high performance jones! They all have everything you could dream of to get your car performing great! If they don't have it they can get it!

PepBoys?!?!?!?.....GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! You can get anything there to tune your car to the max. Autobacs and SuperAutobacs are definately different but you can still get yourself satisfied at either.

i just closed a deal with autobacs not to long ago. from what i was told by the general manager , it is supposed to open up this month, or so is planned. i was also informed that they are taking away the motorcycle division of the store and replacing it with truck accessories instead. ill try to get a hold of him tomorrow to find out some stuff and repost as soon as i can. i also have a lot of friends in the industry that say they were working on getting more domestic wheel lines in, you know, the crappy alba and american racing types of ish. but ill try to get the details.

yeah...the only thing that's pep boy-ish about autobacs in it's a large automotive store. They carry a huge assortment of things for your automobile. Unlike pepboys or kragen, they carry cheap brands AS WELL AS high quality stuff (tein, cusco, etc). Comparing pepboys and super autobacs is like comparing **** and chocolate. it can't be done... Unlike most people, i've actually BEEN to an autobacs. My bro just got me my tension rods from them....at least HE BETTER HAVE!!!

if you are at the block (in orange) you will be taking the 22 west, exit on beach (north?) and it will be on your left side, after garden grove blvd but before lampson. im like 90% sure thats right, someone might have to confirm that though.. not sure if you will exit north or south onto beach though...

*note* if you exit beach and you hit trask then you are going the wrong way, turn around until you pass garden grove blvd, and you should see it on the left hand side. if you exit and you see garden grove blvd you are going the right way (on the corner of garden grove and beach is a shell gas station and a denny's) if you pass both of those you are going the right way, keep going until you see it.

hope that helps.

*edit* 22 west towards long beach, exit beach blvd north.
