| Someone Please Someone Please tell me im not an idiot for investing money into a KA24e Single Cam motor........ I've owned a z31 and a z32 in recent years and i just had to have me an "s13" coupe so i found a guy my dad knew and traded him an old bike for a '89 240sx Xe Ka24e Car is extremely clean, had a clean title, but the motor was blown...due to a hole the timing chain had ate in my water main to and through my head ......lucky me my dads friend had a second motor to go with it! Another KA24e......im very elctronically inclined but not so well with mechanics so we took it to a shop where we have friends and asked to rebuild the second motor and in the process turbo the motor with a garret t25 i had laying around from a z31...... The car is in its last week of the build and i should be driving it monday of next week (11/9) im going to end up with near $900 bucks in the new turbo motor...... im seeing online that a used Sr20's are going for like 1200 :/ did i make a stupid descsion by rebuilding a Single cam motor and then add to my stupidity by turbo-ing it? you wont hurt my feelings i just wanna know if it was wise...... im running 7lbs of boost and im using an hks external wastgate of somesort and i have a Greddy exhaust 3 1/2 inch all the way back (no Cat) and some custom headers the mechanic said that id be impressed by ( on top of that the headers were pulled off another car for 20 bucks )the car will eventually be turned "street/racing/show" due to the part of the world i live in where "if it isnt a mustng or a camaro it cant be fast or bad" my dad owns an audio shop in which i work so the interior will be about beauty and being freaking loud! like i said before was the descision for a turbo KA24 E Single came dumb? thanks guys- im new here so any suggestions would be nice let me know what you think by what ive told u pics will be coming soon! - Jordan | |

| Zilvia Member ![]() | Depends on the rebuild. If you just did a OEM rebuild of a single slammer then yes it was a waste of money. if you put qualilty rods and pistons in then not so much. 2.4l > then 2.0l anyday. The single slammer can put down so good numbers when built. KA heads flow very nicely to. And a built KA is instant street cred when someone who knows is looking at it. SR's have been done to death but there is a reason for that. Factory forged internals and a plethora of aftermarket support. If you did a OEM rebuild then be careful with the boost. People at KA-T.org (good forum to join BTW) say a KA can be very reliable w/ the right tune. All the boosted KA's i have seen have blew the rings pretty quickly so maybe i just haven;t seen a proply tuned one then. Also i hear the KA rods are also not strong enough to handle to much boost. But if it's going to be a race/show car you should of put a RB26 in it anyway ![]() |

a 1200 dolla sr has 180K plus miles on it and will need rebuilt eventually. you will like the low end torque too. Matt Powers and Tommy both drive turbo KA's in 2 of the better looking FD cars.

my thoughts exactly. if the rebuild was done right and your only running 7 pounds of boost you should be fine. i have a friend running 8 pounds on a ka24de with 120k miles. not the smartest thing but it has been running fine for about 20k.. he installed the turbo right around the 100k mark | |

| Leaky Injector | ive had a few sohc Ka 240s. . . like 6 of em. i dont see where all the hatred for them comes from. i guess its because theyre not super jdm cool. my current project has one, and i have one sitting on a build stand waiting on forged guts to go in with t-28 power on the way. you're not an idiot, you didn't do anything stupid. buying one new from nissan on the other hand. . . that would've been stupid. good luck and post some pics/info when you get done.
