silvia fenders and hood Qs

ok, i've had too much trouble with my pop up lights on my 90 s13 hatch lately and i'm going to do the silvia conversion. i have a buddy that is local providing me with headlights, brackets, corners and a grill, but im not sure if i want to try and find oem fenders, hood, and front bumper or go aftermarket. im not going to say that i'm trying to do this on a budget, but i'm not looking to buy some retardedly priced stuff either. just plain jane oem stuff or something simple aftermarket.

what do you guys prefer? if i was to go aftermarket who should i stay away from?

i don't think at this point i want to go widebody, mainly because my wheels are perfectly flush at the rear and stick out just a hair in front. i also dont want to go with some wild ass gaping wide front end or anything. . . i kind of like the version select Type 4 because of the lip it has (i hate a stock silvia bumper on a hatch with no lip. . . looks too short) but it also isnt too aggressive like the kits that need the skirts so they dont look retarded. i'll probably buy kouki skirts later this year or early next as far as that goes.

give me some opinions.

thanks.

My opinion: Make up your own mind, it's your car, you need to be happy with it. No sense in asking a bunch of strangers what you should do.

With that being said, if you don't want widebody, then buy OEM fenders. Hood, and bumper? You're on your own.

i'd go with oem stuff, fitment is good, quality is good.

but i wouldn't do it on a hatch.

thanks for the quick replies.

i have made my mind up. . . im doing a silvia conversion. i just wanted opinions on what people like. that doesnt mean im going to take any one opinion in particular and run with it, but there are a lot of options out there, and while im looking and searching elsewhere for exactly what i want, i like listening to what others have to say. one of you may know of some option ive yet to hear or see that i might really like.

i kind of figured id have a lot of folks say OEM. thats cool. i may go with that because OEM stuff does fit better.

who makes a good CF hood (or FRP for that matter) thats good quality and isnt balls expensive? whatever it is im going to paint it, im not a fan of exposed carbon.

Seibon seems to have good quality stuff.

you might want to consider what used peices you can find on here. also don't forget we have alot of body kit sponsers on here.

bricks are shitty. end of story

their light output is horrible. so are projectors but at least you can upgrade them.

they look great, but in terms of safety, suck. i personally would like to be safe.

credit to ixfixi for teaching me

projectors look ricey, go with bricks. and it depends on what your trying to achieve. if you got a fairly stock car, get all oe shit. if your plannin on wide body and gangster offset wheels n shit. go with a legit fiberglass widebody fenders, dmax hood and kit. all you would realy need is headlight and brackets and corner lights then. could even make brakets and get clear corners. only oem peices you would need are the headlights lol

Oh yeah pretty much whatever way you go, the headlights light out put will suck balls

I have bricks and it seems like I'm driving around with just parking lights on

Projectors at least can be retrofitted to use hid's correctly, but to each his own

the lights i'm picking up today are triple projectors, factory corners, and factory brackets for $100 and they're all in really good shape. i think thats a pretty good deal considering i can pick it up and its somebody i trust.

i can't decide whether i want the version select type 2 or the stock aero bumper. . . but i havent seen any aftermarket versions of the aero bumper or else thats probably what i'd go with. my buddy's sil80 has the brick headlights on them, and i think they look way better than the projectors, but knowing the projectors are easily upgraded to HID makes me feel better and thats something i will definitely look into.

i agree with the logic of OEM fenders at this point, because i really dont think i want to have a ton of bodywork to do with front and rear aftermarket fenders. maybe later though.

ive looked at the seibon hoods and i like them, and i dont think theyre outrageously priced for the quality everyone says they have.

are the version select and origin FRP parts pretty good as far as fitment goes? i know anything that isnt OEM is going to require fitting, but i want to know its not something that will take major work to get it right. ive seen some really awful fitting kits that required a TON of work just to get them on the car (andy's autosport comes to mind).
ive only ever had one other car with an aftermarket bumper cover, and it was a Bomex piece on my 93 civic hatch, and it required nothing more than drilling holes and painting and it was perfect (that was back in '98).

thanks for all the replies guys, keep em coming.

As long as you think a full retrofit is easy, then sure. Meaning taking apart the lights, removing the ancient halogen projectors, mounting HID projectors, cleaning things up, resealing the headlights, mounting the lights, mounting the ballasts, and properly wiring it all up.

Jut slapping some illegal drop-in HID kit into halogen projectors, is stupid. Just as stupid and dropping those illegal HID kits into standard reflector housings. But hey, it looks so cool when you have can blue, and pink, and green glare all over the place.

[/rant on idiotic HID swaps]

NOOO

You must get bricks, and type 2 is awsome.

I would also steer away from carbon fiber hoods, mine has been giving me the whoobles

seriously you need to be quiet if you do not know what you are talking about. Projectors looking ricey? GTFO

safety should be everyones concern, not only for yourself, but others as well.

just got back from picking up my lights and already did a function test, and everything works, which is a plus. they've had one of those yellow light wraps installed on them but never run with the lights on, so they may be coming off, but i dont know yet. i didnt think he had a hood but luck would have it that he has a slightly dinged up but other wise straight hood he threw in for free, but it wouldnt fit in my hatch so i gotta go back next weekend with the truck. all i lack now is fenders and a front bumper.

here's a question i'm sure i'll get flamed for: anybody ever cut 240 fenders to fit silvia corner lights? i have 2 spare sets, and it looks like it'll work if you cut out for the corners. . . i didn't pull out the tape measure but it looks like it will. if i can't find silvia fenders by next weekend i may try it unless somebody tells me its impossible first.

if it requires a full retrofit for HIDs then i guess thats what im in for, cause i can't stand shitty headlights. every car i've ever had has either had super bright driving lights or extremely good headlights, so this is a must for me. there are a lot of deer around my neck of the woods, and they'll be running constantly now that hunting season is about to begin. i'm one of the lucky few people that hasnt had a head on collision with a deer here, and i want to keep it that way.

thanks for all the replies guys, keep em coming. if any of you have pics of your front end setup i'd love to see em.

i took my front end off yesterday checked some things...

i dont think its really possible to cut the fenders and make it work. at least not and make it look half decent.

yes converting s13 popup fenders into silvia fenders has been done.

but why would you want to do that? it would probably cost you as much to have someone to do it as it would be to just buy some.

i can do it myself. . . but after looking at it yesterday i think i dont want to put that much time into it, and i dont think it will be as good as just getting oem fenders. thats pretty much my opinion on it.

OEM fenders are expensive..
I got some origin 25mm overs for $125, unused
vertex bumper used for $80, did some fiberglass on it real quick

Just finished my silvia conversion today, just have to cut the bumper support and do some wiring..
The hood is the hardest part to find (no one wants to ship because its big and heavy)

If i were you, id just pick up the cheapest silvia hood i could find. (I found an OEM one for $215, 2 hour drive away)

disclaimers*
hoods already on, just dont have a pic yet
coils being installed tomorrow
new rims are on the way
