| Zilvia Member ![]() | OBD-II Emissions in Maryland on SR20DET So now comes that time when I have to get my SR emissions tested. I live in Maryland now and it's a '96 S14 so I will have to pass the OBD-II test. I am fully aware that the SR doesn't have this connection, so I'm pretty much SOL. I was wondering if there are any experiences preferably from MD where they let you run the sniffer instead of just failing you right away, or anything similar. Trust me I've been searching all over, and found several pretty sound threads saying that there is no way to get it to pass and that you can't rig the ECU to a diagnostics connector or anything of the sort. The threads were reasonably old and I'm wondering if anyone has any new information that says otherwise. PM me if you'd like, or strike up a discussion. I know theres not too many MDers on here, but any input is appreciated. |

| Zilvia Junkie ![]() | Bribe the emissions guy. Or get an address in an area that doesn't require emissions. You can get a "street address" in a UPS store I think.

| Post Whore! ![]() | PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MARYLAND AND FEDERAL EMISSIONS NEED TO ABSTAIN FROM POSTING. This may be illegal under local, state, and federal law. Please do not mention this again. You have to move out of Maryland. Even then you may still be violating federal emissions laws. I'm not sure where you're going with this, but I don't think it's good. Immediate fail. Quote:

Technically your swap is illegal under federal law. So no matter where you go in the US, your car is illegal. Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program Your only option is to get a repair waiver: VEIP Waiver Information | ||

| AFC #1 ![]() | MD's emissions centers are run by the state. Good Luck bribing someone who is being paid comfortably and probably has state investigators having bribe stings all the time. It's also probably illegal to bribe a state worker.

Also, MD state inspection involves a visual inspection as part of the state inspection required of all vehicles. Straight from the inspection form: Quote:

| Zilvia Junkie ![]() | not necessarily irrelevant, but i live in maryland and i haven't had an emissions test in 6 years because i keep getting 2 year extensions. i do not own a 240sx , but i do own a 1995 integra . Whenever i get the letter go to emissions i roll up to the place, line up, guy asks me "what year is ur integra", "1995" i say. he says "u are way to low, go around front to get an extension".... i walk in the door and they verify the extension. stamp it. i go home. visually speaking i could have owned a 2001 integra and said 1995, (in reality it IS a 95'). this isn't garenteed to work or anything, but u could* try ur luck. |

| Zilvia Junkie ![]() | what list of charges do i currently have again? he could say it's a 1992 civic for all i care. i'm just sharing my personal experience. no bribes. no lies. i simply drove my car to emissions and told them what they asked of me. |

OBDII in MD they plug the OBDII port into the computer verify the vehicle information and the emissions states for all the controls. Then you can get randomly selected for a roller test. I don't know anyone that has gotten to do the rollers post 1996(most of the time they don't pop the hood). If you don't have a OBDII port on a post 1996 vehicle you are basically fucked in the long term. You can't complete the test to fail it. Pre-OBDII they are mainly concerned with the the results of the sniffer. It's much easier to pass with grey area parts and swaps. Most of techs don't know what to look for don't care cause they are doing so many in a day. As long as it blows clean they roll it off and go to the next one.

| Zilvia Member ![]() | Appreciate it everyone, Klares, i second murda's question. Do not bash me for being illegal, as an SR alone is illegal, but after reading everyone's post I'm thinking of slamming and telling them I'm a 95. I IMAGINE theyll check my info inside, and they can call me out on being wrong, but I'm sure people do say the wrong year on accident anyways, I don't think theyd slit my throat for that. What I am wondering is, DO THEY actually check. I know it's different location to location even day to day, but Klares and anyone that has tried this, what are your thoughts. I was also looking up "getting an address at a PO box out of state"... The MVA website says you must come in to set that up, and given the new MVA strict license laws I imagine they'll want some proof (that I don't have) for Needing that P.O. box registration, thus that's out of the picture. Thanks for the feedback |

| Leaky Injector | what could he have failed on that for.. no factory 240sx has that, and most of the stock shift knobs dont have that. if they pull that you tell them no, they will listen cuz money talks. And the year is printed on the slip they mail you that you have to hand to them, but they dont check vin's etc.. FACT: last year i had a vert that needed emissions, i took my diff color coupe that is a 89 and slammed.. rolled up w/ diff tags etc.. they signed it off. so yes they are lax. no vin check, not the same color not the same tag number all on the slip etc. this isnt cali ppl. if your so worried, find a friend w/ a stock 96 or higher that will pass. . give them 20 bucks in gas money to drive over there w/ ur slip. done that too. |

| AFC #1 ![]() | I won't they will say unable to preform test. Automatic re-test. Come back when you have a functioning OBDII port in the factory location. It shows them on the computer where it should be if they can't find it. The E30 falls under "The vehicle cannot be tested if the shift indicator is not properly aligned or the driver's door is not operational." clause.

| Premium Member ![]() | Buy an 89 and register it historic. I want to get my hands on this cleanest 2-tone ive ever seen, and not have tro worry about emissions or any crap like that. I realize thats not too much help in your situation but Ive had friends roll up there slammed and not been able to get on the rollers so they gave them extensions, so that has worked in the past. |

| Has a Premium Member. ![]() | I might just put the small tires on my obd2 s14, slam it, and go up there next week since my emissions is due next month, if it doesn't work i still have a few weeks to put my stock manifold and o2 sensor back on

| Zilvia Member ![]() | I dont think this is going to help you a whole lot with the problem with your issue Ess14 but when I took my 97 up to the tester in Westminster I know for a fact that they didn't do the visual aspect, just the sniffer and the OBDII plug-in, so I wouldn't go there without an OBDII engine |
