10 years from now, I'll probably still have mine, but with a newer daily driver as well. I'll then make this my late-night weekend, get away for a bit and remember how fun an electronically un-assisted, lightweight chassis, no airbags everywhere in the car that (knocks on wood) I will never need, driving used to be This is my 3rd s14, and no matter what I buy, had an '99 eclipse gst, 2 evos, an FD rx-7, 350z, I still wind up coming back to it. It was the first car I actually sought after when I was coming of driving age back in '96, and liked them ever since. I kind of compare my affinity to those older cats that drive around in their old '65+ mustangs, challengers, camaros, 'cudas, novas, dusters, etc. Though it may not have the long heritage of one of those classic cars(atleast here in the states, s-chassis been around since 1964 in japan), this car, as far as my generation goes, is and will be a classic. I wouldn't sell it for the simple fact I won't get what I put into it, and, 9 times out of 10, the only people that usually buy them now are the freshly licensed kids enchanted by drifting, and, 9 times out of 10, you know how that goes

Do you believe you'd still be holding onto a S chassis in another 10 years? Why?

I doubt i will have my same s13 chassis in 10 years. mainly because i feel that it is more of a liability than an asset. where as it is costing me more money than making me money. I like my money to work for me, not against me. in 10 years time all i want is to be alive.

in the future my s-chassis will fly and shoot stuff

...i'll probably put a vq35de or possibly the gtr engine who knows in it, upgrade all suspension parts, keep it maintained year after year, then give it to my kid. unless we get the technology to fly and shoot stuff.

Plan to rebuild the engine, and replace the suspension for grad school, so there's at least 6 years of use with that. After school I'll probably retire it to track status with a VQ35 or something and buy something newer, but not too nice (C5, Elise, 350Z?). I'd like to eventually own a GT-R, so maybe I'll just start saving for one of those at that point.

+1 for the z33 option.

In ten years my car will be parted and long gone (if not crashed), then I will pick up a z33 for drift.

I'm going to be like old Biff from BTTF2.

''a 240? I haven't seen one them in...30 years''

Honestly, in my line of work, i put MAYBE 4000mi/yr on the daily while the 240 stays garaged and driven a few times a month. With the absurd amount of resto/upgrade work done, I dont see myself getting rid of it.

I'll be the cool uncle with the japanese hot rod in the garage. I dont mind.

I plan to keep mine, get a daily and restore the coupe for prosperity.
I mean, it won't be like my neighbors and their '70 Malibu, '69 Camaro and '70 Buick Wildcat, but our generation really doesn't have any such cars, so my S13 will be that car I might be tinkering with in my 40's while I drive another car on the daily.

I already have a daily driver and my 240 is in storage, thus it will stay. I will continue to work on my car, until I am no longer able to, and drive it whenever I can. As I see it, I will have it, among other projects, for a good long time.

this reminded me of my plans for my own car. when i bought the thing in 2000, i didnt see that many of them to begin with (around my area anyways), then i met some guys that became good friends, and my best friend bought one, and then there was a a swell of them aroun 04-05 or so when drifting seemed to come on strong. now its back to how it was when i first bought the car, barely see any around. i will have mine indefinitely, only a major wreck at this point would get me out of ownership. i hope to, like another poster said, pick up a genesis coupe after i finish school next year and then take my S14 off the road and go all the way through it. i'd like to get it pretty much factory fresh as far as appearance concerned , then an LSx swap. the way the car industry is going i think it will be refreshing to have a (fairly) basic real "car" u can enjoy on weekends thats fun to drive and not overtly computerized. newer cars seem to be heading the way of appliances more so than ever. this cars will prolly be the target cars for overhaulin in 15 years, lol

just follow the path of how those cars have been going, and you have your answer.

*Abundant car.
*ended up with great race history (510 was trans am series, s13 is drifting)
*upgrade parts became readily available.
*Engine swaps became common.
*Got really popular among the young car enthusiest.
*Datsun/Nissan made a model that took its place (Z car and ,....well, Zcar )
*the youth started to go towards the newer replacement model as they started showing up used, and were marketed affordable.
*The 510/240sx fans stayed with the car and kept tracking them.
*the price of the car settles.
*Keeping cars in mint condition with all original parts became/becomes popular.
*some youth still enjoy the car and build them
*the price of the car starts to rise.
*the older guys start bringing the cars out only for events and show and shines.
*cheap parts for the cars disapears as aftermarket support dwindles, leaving only quality, yet pricey parts.
*Nissan 240sx takes over the datsun 510 meet at Shasta.
*the "spook" or front "lip" becomes a sought after item.
*Original "tacks"/"HUD's" get really expensive.
*Most owners enjoy building the cars, and the occational "spirited" sunday drive.
*Alot of 240sx projects are sold because another baby is on the way.
*most owners watch the remaining 240sx's that are tracked over their forums and mailing list.

soooo,..... did i miss anything??
lol

I bought replacement gauges for a 510 about 12 years ago. When I showed up at the guys trailer in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere WA,
He had a fleet of datsun 510's
Over 16 of them!!!
some running , some not, but all in Decent or better condition.

it was amazing.
I've been fortunate enough to meet alot of "famous" people.
From Tarintino to Christian Bale.
can't tell you much about those meetings.
But I remember everything about my Datsun 510 day. From the guys sweater, to the lattice around the bottom of his raised brown trailer.
.lol

guess that's you in about 12 more years

(minus the trailer lol.)

edit:fixed it ESmorz, comp was acting up during my post

well "Full-Lock" on here just sold his for 45k.... so i dont see a well built, clean, and full interior car like his getting any less valuable. Thats kindof the goal i'm setting for mine so that in 20 or 30 years i'll have something that has actually appreciated rather than depreciated.

I also recently purchased a vehicle as an investment for barret jackson. Its an origonal owner 91 Cadillac Sedan Deville. An 86yr old lady drove it to church and the grocery store once a week for 18 years. I picked it up for 700 bucks, and it is the definition of MINT. So i'm hoping in another 20 years or so its worth upwards of 20 to 30k

To answer your question i will have my kouki forever, or until i'm bored of it and its worth considerably more than i have invested into it.

My S14 i'd like to have forever.
My s13 is like a disposable car drift car. It'll be too fucked up one day to fix. I don't see me having it for another decade lol.

Possible future drift cars: RX-8, Miata, S2000, 350Z? Genesis, Sky and Solstices are still too new.

I had a AE86 a few years ago that I thought I would never sell it. However, as it was getting older and older and other cars are getting faster and faster on the track, I just had to move on.

That's when I got my S14. I just bought a 04 S2000 and it's pretty nice. I am still keeping the S14 for now.

may be someday when the Z or G is cheap enough, I would move on as well.

my hatch ill never part with, hell i might just hord another one.
I might see myself in a genisis coupe possilby.
But ill still have the S chassis.

Im my opinion the S chassis price will go up dramatically. Prople are hording them and just think of how many are being made into race/drift cars. Think of how many have gotten totaled by young drivers. Its only a matter of time. The price will rise slow and steady. So in ten years? I will hopfully have at least my S13. And maybe a real nice stock one, with intentions to keep virgin as posible.

MKIV Supra, Evo 8, STI, Integra Type R, FD3S, etc etc

Clean, stock examples of these cars will probably fetch nice change down the road.

Honestly, I give it another 5 years before I'm over this. Z33 sounds like a great option.

Ive had my coupe for 2 years already and keeping up with the shit falling apart is a pain in the ass and I still love it. I want to learn how to drift also i guess.

I prefer the Z33 option though=]

I agree with everything except the Evo and Sti... too prevalent. 98 MKIV Supra, ITR, and 97-98 240sx combined US sales are probably less than the Sti or Evo of any year

True, but I doubt the number produced defines desire. There were THOUSANDS of Camaros produced monthly between 1967-1969 yet they are still highly desirable. It's not about how rare they are. It's instead about how many survive. I bet there's a "Oops, tree got in my way" thread daily on the Evo forums.

I don't like to think about this. And/Or money I've spent on this car. I've wasted a majority of my youth working to buy rwd car, different motor, and always trying to be bigger/better/faster.

Do I wish I would have ever bought my 240? Actually.. probably not. In 10 years, I see myself far far from my 240.

Unless there's an(other) unexpected change I won't have mine 10 weeks from now.

I don't want to build a car until I can do it properly without it affecting my real life.

So it's probably gonna go.
