For those that want to support and help out (but are physically incapable of doing any local logistical work), my suggestion is the following:

- Try to attend the event. Remember, it's about the people, NOT about the car. In '02 there were a good ~20+ that flew in, rented a car that was NOT a Nissan, and attended the event. Not a single one complained about being there without a 240SX... and frankly no one cared! Part of the reason why events are the way they are is in fact due to the people attending, and the lengths to which they make plans to attend the event. If you have a bunch of backyard locals attending a "national convention", I highly doubt it can be labeled as such.

- If you can't attend, you can try to get people to register. Anyone can do this, but really the event should sell itself without much fanfare. People should feel compelled to attend from within, not from peer pressure or because "everyone else is going". But some need more convincing than others... and this is where word of mouth comes in.

- Besides giving support, there's not much else. Take a look at large conventions planned, automotive or otherwise, and you can see that there are a lot of logistical and operations-related items that you just need to physically be there to take care of. My prime example is the annual SEMA Show, where you have to have a booth set up physically, and lots of logistics cannot be taken care of remotely from another location.

Not much you can do on this, unfortunately.

-alex
2010 is the year that I graduate from college, so I hope I will be able to attend. I have already started to save the money for the plane ticket, hotel, and car fare.

The chance to meet and mingle with nissan enthusiasts and people from the forum is an opportunity I wont pass up if I can.

I wish there was more I could do to help, but you have a point, really cant do much so far away. Over the next two years I will just stay positive about the even t and hope my positivity will rub off on all the naysayers

-Calvin (sorry to steal your thing, but i figured since i know your name, I would share mine)

I know I'm not the most liked person on the forum but I'd definitely be down for this. I'll hopefully be in grad school by that point and will have made enough to actually do something to my car. Would those in the southeast ike to get together to form a caravan?

That was when the community was really tightknit and everyone was cool. I'd give anything to see that type of thing again.
yeah.. im fixin to hop on a flight to kansas again....

that'll be the day. :-)

my take on it is this: the convention sounds like a great idea.

as for me, i've become a bit of a recluse lately. no interest to waste time posting, and no interest in joining a community that's over-expanded to the point where people have really lost a common-ground for their vehicles. one of the most important aspects of owning a car is maintaining the car. what the hell am i going to do at a meet where people spend more money on cheap knockoff parts instead of putting that money towards maintaining their cars and keeping them clean? this is the problem with all the noobs that joined the scene and purchased a $500-1500 dollar 240SX. you are now the proud owner of a *very* worn down car. and how do you fix that? by installing inferior parts and doing roller paint jobs on them. im sorry, but thats not my idea of maintaining a car and i see no pride in that.

now that sure sounds condescending im sure, but thats just my take on things - and i've been around long enough to be entitled to my own opinion. the day i see people (both 240 owners AND vendors) stepping up to the plate, innovating, and putting care and TLC back into their cars and the community is the day I start getting involved again.

the size of the community is huge. its cool and really interesting to see how many people are involved nowadays, but we as a whole really need to work harder at spreading knowledge instead of trying to compete with one another, see who has the better car, and sit there supporting cheap products and companies.

i wish you guys luck with the convention, i think it will be a lot of fun and would definitely consider going. i just think people should at the very minimum, think about the above. a lot of people involved in the industry are really sick about this behavior or mentality.

These are the following we'll need help(hook up) with:
Video Team(equiptment, crew, and final editing)
Tshirt(design and manufacturer)
Food hookup(catering)
Hotel hookup for fly in guests
Host(friends who show the fly in guests around)
DJ(music and equiptment)
MC(announcer)
Chairs and Tents(no one wants to get burn)
If anyone have other suggestion of what else we'll need please post.

As for location of the event, if you think it should be anywhere else beside socal
please put up or shut up.
There's no such things is which location is better,it just matter of which location
we can get the most 240 owner to show up.
Please keep in mind this is a 2 or 3 day event and it's a convention NOT just a car meet/show).
Target dates will be spring break of 2010.
Thank you,

Sam

Thanks, Sam. Easier for me to quote your response.

Alex politely said those who do the planning, pick the location. If you want it in Chitown, then you go ahead and set up the venue instead of whining about why you can't come to California.

You even said yourself that you'll be showing up. If you are, then stop complaining. If you want it closer to wherever you live, set something up. If you have dates, venues/locations, activities (raffle at Nissan HQ), hotel deals (Alex did in 2002), and even simple things like restaurants, gas stations and other simple amenities covered... do it.

It makes no sense to clutter it up with "pipe dreams". There are people here stepping up, they just happen to be in Southern California. They're doing this on their own time with their connections. Yes, there are a lot of other great locations to host this event in the U.S. but will anyone in those locations step up?

If you want to help, there are plenty of ways to do that. Just contact any of the people who have offered any semblance of a plan (Sam) and he can direct you in what you can do to help.

If all you're going to do is complain, then stay out of this thread.

Good Luck to those who are planning! I don't think I'll have the funds to attend the upcoming event but I should have enough cash to scrounge up for the Convention DVD!

Can't wait to see this happen. I agree with the knowledge preached, have fun is important. For the younger crowd lets be mature and use our brain a bit so we can do this again.

Hate to say it but ya So-Cal has great options. WSIR - HTM for the WIN!!

Either way I am there, missed the 02 event, ain't missing this one.

From this post on:

Anyone complaining about location will see their post deleted. If it occurs a second or third time you will be pinked. This thread is for us to post info to the S-chassis community, not to hear a lot of "OH It should be held here at_____"

If you have a CONSTRUCTIVE suggestion or want to get a more detailed answer feel free to post it here...but please, no belly-aching over the location.

I am sure I can help figure out some of, if not all the Video stuff. I could probably get 2-6 pro-sumer level cameras and operators together for pretty cheap. have em shoot all weekend. I also know guys that own cranes. I could possably pull a favor and get one of them for a few hours one day.(probably track day)

And I could of course get the post guys together too. Shit, I get drunk every other week with a really good composer. You want an original score?? lmao.

So instead of donating money directly, I could do all this media stuff.

Just let me know as things progress. And we will discuss further, what exactly your ideas are for the video and how we can accomplish those goals.

This is just an idea, but do you think it would be possible to contact a tuner mag and Nissan to come out to the event? The tuner mag would be there just to have a story about a country wide SX event.

If there was cameras and what not, perhaps someone could invite Nissan there to show off the SX replacement

Sounds like an awsome event. If I am still in the 240 game, I would love to attent an event like this.(As long as I can get my 240 out of the northern states with out seeing snow. And not get it impounded for being modded)

Digging it man.
There are of course the major mags, import tuner and stuff.

But I bet we could get a really great write up in C-16 and Grassroots.

No one responded to my earlier question... everyone is too busy arguing about a location.

What are the responsibilities of a host?

suggestion. what about opening a paypal account so people who want to help but don't have the time or skills can help monitarily with the event. i know this isn't all going to be paid for by a hand full of people.

where ever it ends up. i will be there.

Personally think it would rock to have this in Chicago! But, seeing what Lisa posted I'm not gonna complain, I need to get out to Socal again anyhow. I'll be there most likely if I'm not too broke for a plane ticket (going with a group and running a booth at TAS in '10 too)

I cant remeber is this event cross forum? i think that if Zivia, Nico, 240sxforums, etc. was to all be at the event, the chance to lure magazines and Nissan there grows exponentially

I believe it is.
That will also make it such a bigger event
