Dent Sport Garage

User name: driftstyre

That is all you need to know about light weight 240s.
I believe they got down to 1800 lbs or so.

The Dent Sport car is amazing. I've had the privilege of seeing it in person at VIR. The car is heavily modified to say the least as far as weight reduction goes, haha.

Can't be that hard to do when you chop off a 1/4 of the car.

Still cool though.

I imagine it isn't easy to keep the car structurally sound while removing 1/4 of it, haha.

ungh. if you could get it that light and keep it as a daily driver, that'd be so fucking metal. i found a website to remove around 400 lbs off a miata. might go that route when mine gets here...im also thinking about rusting up some replaceable body panels and running a blowoff valve airhorn though the hood...but thats just getting off topic...

They should take off the spoiler for a few pounds, then mount the radiator up there instead! Then they could also remove the fans because they won't need them any more for another few pounds!

+1 for first person to post spoiler mount radiator pics.

Yea, lol, it's time attack/ rally based.

Look at it, does it look street legal? lol. Does it look like something you would drive on the street?

I thought I read in a magazine that they got it down to 2200. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Dent Sport's S13 is insane.

Opera Performance managed to get their S2K's weight down from 2976 lbs. to 2167 lbs. I'd love to see what they could do with an S-chassis.

Look up a guy named Andrew Broaner. I know he's on NICO as "Broaner" but I'm not sure if he's on Zilvia. His car is an S13 coupe with a VQ30 and last weighed in at 2060lbs. He did a tube frame section from in front of the front uprights forward and I believe for the rear subframe as well(if you did an entire tube frame front end from the firewall foreward there's even more weight savings to be found.) The car is also of course stripped with no dash or anything, but it is nonetheless much closer to an original S13 than that Dent Sport car. The crazy part is he doesn't even have lightweight composite body panels, Lexan windows, lightweight wheels or anything like that. That's an easy sub-2000lbs car if he does those things.

Edit: Here ya go: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/767108

Those figures are horribly exaggerated.

I got my old car down to 2540lbs, 96 SE with sunroof. At that point though it's pretty much retarded to drive due to the noise, heat, and other issues.

Kognition's s-14 weighs around 2200lb, not sure if that is dry weight or not.

My sil-80 weighs about 2300lb dry with all the stock sheetmetal, glass, and the KADE. Once i'm done it should weigh about 2000lb or so sith 1/2 tank of gas, ls1, and full gusseted cage. As it sits right now there is nothing in the interior besides a dash, center console and door panels. The entire heaterbox assembly is gone as is the rest of the interior, sound deadening, mounting brackets for the rear panels, seat, and seatbelts. Basically all that is left to gut is the wiring and doors. I am willing to be that replacing the rear and 1/4 glass with lexan will shed around 50-75lbs or so. When I install the fiberglass wide 1/4 panels it should lose another 50lbs or so. Fiberglass hood and hatch should shed another 60lb or so. Fuel cell and removing the sparetire well should shed another 50lbs or so. Ls1 should shed 50-100lbs. The cage should add something like 150lb. Fiberglass roof should shed 20lbs or so. gutted doors should shed 50lbs or so between the two and if I go with carbon doors it will shed more weight. Fiberglass dash should shed like 15lbs or so. It is almost endless what you can do to save weight. Shit you could go with all titanium bolts on the whole car and lose a LOT more weight if you are the richest guy in the universe.

A lot of what you can do is dictated by what the car is used for. IE: A street car/weekend track warrior probably isn't worth lexan and fiberglass, or a stripped interior (ask me how I know about this one).

Lots of cool ideas in here though. Cool thread.

racepar1, LS1 aren't actually lighter than stock. I used to think they were too based on Hinson's info. But what they posted is not true. A fully equipped LS1 without tranny weighs 496lbs + 130 or so for a T56. A KA24DE weighs around 370lbs loaded without tranny. I don't know exactly how much the tranny weighs but it isn't anywhere near enough to account for the 600lbs total weight that Hinson claims. Realistically an LS1+T56 combo will add over 100lbs unfortunately.

Who knows how they came up with 596lbs pounds for a KA+tranny and 478 for LS1+T56. Their scale must be screwed up.

I'm at about 2270 or so. It's gained and lost weight, but I've pretty much been keeping track of her weight.

It's fun on the street. It just sucks right now because my ring gear isn't shimmed properly. Otherwise, it's not that bad.

There's a weight loss thread. Please search for it.

Edit: Nevermind, did it for you:
