At that point you would start factoring in downforce to compensate for the loss in weight.

You mean spending insane amounts of money and booking a wind tunnel to actually do it properly? sure!

Well making some downforce isn't that hard, but maximizing it does require a wind tunnel. To start just build a front splitter/diffuser, make some canards, rear diffuser, and get a REAL adjustable rear wing. The REAL wind tunnel tested wings aren't cheap, but they are worth every penny in the end. Try to duct the air entering through the ducts in the front bumper as good as possible, this will keep the flow smooth and prevent the air from going where you don't want it, under the car and inside the wheelwells. Vented hoods and fenders help reduce the air pressure under the car as well. Seal your sideskirts to the ground if it is even a remote possibility as preventing air from rushing under the car on the sides will pay huge dividends. Downforce really isn't that complicated, it is simply a difference in pressure. If you can make the pressure under the car less than the pressure on top of the car at speed, you have just created downforce.

$700 or so for 2 hours of wind tunnel time (for first timers) actually isn't that bad. Unfortuanetly in 2 hours all you will really get is a baseline and maybe a basic idea of where to start. After that the price shoots up to $1000 minimum.
