painting polished lips?

Might be a dumb questions but here it goes.. Im kinda over the polished lips, I want a more subtle look and i was wondering if theres a special way to paint the polished lip of a wheel or can i just paint it one speed with the rest of the wheel.

get it done right and take it to a wheel specialty shop that can dismantle the rim and paint it, that is my only tip!

My best advice to you is to have them powder coated.
Will last longer and stay looking great for a long time.

Actually doing this to my Elites Right now.

All you need to do is Scuff it.Even the lip. Most Cheaper Wheels - XXR's (sportmax),Elitesm etc have a Clear coated Lip...so you just have to Scuff it...but Don't scuff the lip too much as to peel the clear.Just need it a tad bit.
peeling the clear makes it hard to Feather out later.

I'm Trying to decided if I wanna just paint the centers or the whole thing.Kinda don't wanna regret it later for painting the lips....but a color like thise what what I was going for.polished lips are a tad Played to me also, but the GOLD elites I have,I'd rather them be silver.

Like MrFairlady said, you just need to run some ~200-400 grit sandpaper on em to give the primer something to stick to. Then if you want super smooth after that, some 600g on the primer, and you're good to go. If you're painting the wheel yourself/rattlecan, you can leave it all one piece, but the problem with painting 'real' wheels is that the paint can build up in the cracks and look lame. If you can take the wheel apart, and pay to have it put back together correctly, I'd do that.

Steel Purple sounds like an amazingly cool color. Do you have any examples of it?

I painted some 002 with HOK Pink paint. Make sure you scuff the wheel very well. and prep it right. You can use a base coat of white and maybe and adhesion premoter.

I dont have any examples but it is very cool.

For those of you who paint. Do you get severe chippage with swapping tires? Ive even had powder coat crack and chip from changing tires often.

Speaking of painting wheels, does anyone know where to find a hiliter color close to this in a spraycan? Everything I've found is either too yellow or too green.
