Trader Rating: (2) | I heard you had a coolant mishap, and an S2k ended up in the wall after going though it... Just curious. I didn't make it down this year. I really wanted to, but it didn't happen.

| Officially: October 3-5 2008, GT Live ![]() ![]() This weekend Bill Washburn of Dent Sport Garage and Ron Adams of Visual Assault headed down to Virginia International Raceway for the 2008 GT Live / Redline Time Attack. Bill was campaigning the DSG 240RS Maxi E2 in Unlimited Rear-Wheel Drive. Ron was campaigning the RASpec Impreza in Modified All-Wheel Drive. This was a particularly exciting event for Dent Sport Garage, as this was the first competitive event for both the 240RS and the RASpec Impreza in their new 2008 configuration. Competing at GT Live was my main goal for 2008, I reached that goal, and being able to get 2nd place was an added bonus. Next year i’ll be focusing on setup and building driver confidance. said Ron about his thoughts on the 2nd place finish. Ron and Bill were supported by Scot Ehrlinger of Dent Sport Garage. Bill would like to thank UTI for making this trip possible. Ron would like to thank DSG for their continued support and build of his car. Both Ron and Bill appreciate BTM Sports’ Burak Tuglu for his continued support at this event. DSG Takes 2 Podium Finishes at GT Live | |

| Premium Member ![]() | Congrats Bill, didn't realize you got the podium, then again, we did leave before you went over to check. Seemed like everyone had a blast all weekend, even with the issues. We didn't even care that our NICO car died, just took off some pressure and gave us more time to hang-out. Look forward to some kind of meet before the snow. Wait till I get the pictures we took uploaded, GT Live thought I was the driver of Modified Magazine's S2000 and took some funny pictures with me and the GT Live girls. It was weird, the models were actually cute there. |

| Zilvia FREAK! ![]() | It sucks I couldn't make it this year. My Dad's birthday is on the 4th and I had promised to completely rip apart his garage and clean it...it took like 8 hours. I would have much rather been up at GT Live, haha.

| Zilvia.net Advertiser ![]() | It was great meeting and hanging with all the Zilvians that were there. I was able to see a good amount of the ProAm drift competition and it was awesome. Brian Wilkerson's(sp?) car is absolutely insane. One of the best sounding cars I have ever heard and really sent chills down my spine. There were some really good drivers. I consider the event a success for me only because I was able to squeeze onto the podium with only 4 complete laps around the track the whole weekend and with 5 year old Hoosier R3s. The car handled so well and once the suspension has been tuned a bit it can definitely do 2:00 laps at VIR. I was able to do a 2:08 before something on the engine let go after two laps of the timed session. The weekend started with a cylinder missing at random points around the track. This was happening at idle once in a while over the past two months and it seemed to fix itself so I forgot about it. After three sessions missed because of that I took the Autronic and MSD out and tracked it down to one of the pins in the 12 pin Deutsch connector. I think something got in there connecting the plug at one point and the pin for the #4 spark into the MSD had backed out, just enough for intermittent spark. Another problem was the coolant spewing out of the overflow which was a PITA because it is in the back of the car and shoots forward into the cockpit when it relieves. The cap ended up not being completely tight. Sweet. Every session was wasted because of these two things. I figured out the coolant problem during the practice session Sunday morning. The remainder of the session was cancelled due to a heavy off of the Takata car. So I went into the timed session with no practice besides laps cruising the track after realizing the car was still F-ed up. I lowered the boost to 19psi and drove the car without worrying about anything. It ran awesome, handled well and by the middle of the second lap the tires gripped better than any I have ever had (note; get good tires next year). Both my competitors had brand new autocross tires for the timed session so I was happy with the car. I didn't even care that my engine broke during the third timed lap(especially since the flat bottom and diffuser created a giant, smooth, 50 ft long rooster tail behind the car with the oil smoke). Under acceleration, the exhaust creates a small cone flame out the exhaust. Some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() The owner (Keiji Ishihara) of Japanese Nissan tuner, I.A.TEC was checking my car out. Ron was translating for me Keiji was there with his son and daughter. He is interested in running a car in Redline events and their company has campaigned a GT300 S14 in JGTC as well as an S15 in Super Taikyu. He was very impressed with the Nissan and commented on it being built in a different way than any other Time Attack Nissan in Japan. He was also very surprised I was using an S13 engine instead of S15 as well as a stock crank. I told him the car was built on a budget and he laughed a little bit. It was definitely an honor meeting him as one of the only privateers running a JGTC car.

| Zilvia.net Advertiser ![]() | The engine has forged internals but the #4 rod failed. I found the lower rod half on the flat underbelly of the car. The high heat coloring most likely means spun bearing. The plug looks perfect so it would most likely be from contamination in the bearing area. The block/crank/rod and piston are destroyed which blows but this is racing. I'd rather not build it again myself as I am not an engine builder so I might have an SR specialist like Mazworx do the bottom end.

That should help your engine last a lot longer under racing conditions, then you wouldn't have to worry about engine problems during race weekends ![]() | |

| Leaky Injector | Bill I think that the best part is that you made it to the track and that was your goal. The project seems much bigger in person than it does in 10 pages of forum format considering that this is all one guy building, paying for and planning the car with virtually no sponsorship help. Hopefully next year our whole team will have fresh soft compound tires on spare wheels for the TT, better sponsorship and planning. Al

Here is some of the rod I found on the rear of the flat bottom. I think there is more, haven't had time to look yet.

| Zilvia Junkie ![]() | ouch... you should check out that guys SR24 from australia "My SR24 build" , i think mazworx did all the work on it but it definitely is a sick SR |

| Zilvia.net Advertiser ![]() | Timmy, That motor is sick. Not going to ever be able to afford anything like that. So I started taking out the motor tonight. I went to drain the oil and water came out with a little oil. This could have been the whole issue, a blown headgasket. The headstuds had been torqued down about 4-5 times (over the past three years) so they could have lost some of their strength. As far as a new motor goes, I can't afford anything crazy. I'd love to sleeve the block and run 90mm bore on stock stroke but I think I will most likely find a good block/crank, go .5mm overbore, APR mains and line hone, deck head and block, machine for extra oil holes in mains etc. I'm not sure about rods yet but I will use CP or JE pistons. I found some more of the rod on the other piece of the flat bottom, some oil/water concoction too. ![]() WTF is this thing

| Zilvia Junkie ![]() | Damn that is really unfortunate. how were the clearances on the rod bearings when you assembled it? I find that SR's are quite sensitive to rod bearing tolerances A few times i have seen that aftermarket rod bearings in standard size are bit off for clearance. Since your road racing, i highly suggest you look into a wider bearing. Looking at discoloring of rod it looks like it was defiantly a spun rod bearing. It probably got so hot to the point where it started to fuse with the crankshaft and the rod failed under shear stress. Did you have a metal HG? If so, my guess is that you might have a hole in your block somewhere after the rod failure. Thus breaching a coolant port in the block.
