reminds me of the movie along came polly, jen lost her keys so much that ben got the alarm key finder for her, she was being stubborn that she didn't need it, but she ended up using it. haha. good luck with the key though.

I remember reading about something about a sticker on the inside of the glovebox that you could give to a dealership for a replacement key...

not sure if this applies for 300zx's and you may not even have it ( I didn't )

gl, make sure you get spares

THE Z33 my brother bought came with a lil metal tab with the key code on it. Yes you can vin order a key from the dealership. We do it all the time at my work. THE KEY WILL NOT FIT IF THE LOCK CYLINDER HAS BEEN REPLACED, UNLESS IT WAS REPLACED WITH A OEM KEY CUT CYLINDER. But ya.. order the key, buy a butterfly knife style key off ebay, then you can be cool.. haha. jk.

good luck though

the car has to be a 95 and up in order for nissan to be able to make a key just by knowing your VIN. ive gone and asked my local dealership before

that'd kinda mean that if you have any 240, you might want to have a completely custom door locking system because nissan keys were only cut so many ways when the cars were being made. ive opened and started at least 2 other 240s with my s14 key. and ive seen it with other nissan keys too. ive seen a stanza key open up 3 s13's

another option............ if the vin/dealer dosent work. when my key broke, i removed the passenger door cylinder (less worn). took it to a locksmith, and he cut me a perfect key (wrote down the numbers and gave it to me for future reference). cost about $25. if they come out to you, obviously it'll cost more.

Key cutting with the vin or key code only works on like late 98' and up and only on certain vehicles.
I worked as a service advisor for last year at dodge, and the owner of the autocenter owned a nissan dealer and I tried to get a key cut for my buddies 98'. Your gonna have to get a locksmith.

haha yea I started my s14 with my s13 key.. I auctually found my keys and thought this post was dead. I also bought a nismo key and complete lock set. I called the locksmmith and they said that the key # is on the auctual door lock on the passenger side door. didnt get a chance to see if it was true cause I found em.

Thanks for all the info peeps

^^^^^Thats if you were smart enough to buy one before you lost it if not then you pay the price!! like my dumb ass, but Im getting smarter, after I found my key I made a copy

I do agree with lime lite and tylerussle about the same key working. might as well give a robber a master key. and 240s are beginning to disapear like civics and integras so Im just gonna get a bad ass alarm system dont care what I pay because its cheaper than loosing my 240....
