I'm betting its just perspective.
You can see the wheels on the car through the center of the Jeep-looking wheel. That 15" is probably a lot closer to the camera than the car is.

I am looking at getting a set of the cheapo MB Weapons in 17X9 +27 or +17 for my S14 but am not sure if the +27 will clear the KTS coilovers on the inside. Brady from AZ has the +17 it seems but I can't tell what kind of work was done on the fenders to fit the 275/40/17's on there. I am trying to stay away from pulling the fenders but I would not mind doing a roll.

So will the 17X9 +27 with 275/40/17's (probably nitto NT-01) clear everything on the inside, and how much work on the fenders is needed to have the same tire clear on the outside with +17 offset?

They will fit. I have 275/40 on a x9 +20 with not much of a fender roll. and I have over an inch before my coilover(stance)

Brady runs those 275/40/17's on the 17X9 +17's, looks like thats what I will have to do. I can get 245 or 255 wide for now and play with the body to fit 275's later I guess.

The car is lowered but not slammed or anything. Running about -3 degrees camber front and -2.5 in the rear.

Now that you mention it the mb motoring 17x9 +17 rims are what weight, I was googling it up and 28lbs came up wtf?! Is that true? I mean they are 500$ for all four (descent price) but 28lbs? true or not?

I know the Weapons are heavy but I wasn't sure if they are 28 lbs heavy. They should be durable, look great for the price and are only $460 shipped so thats why I like them. It's either that or some good old FN01RC's which are only about 19lbs. It would be a +15 offset too which would require more fender work. My goal is to be able to run 275's for when I get some sort of real motor in the car. 245's would be ok for now and would keep me in STX if I bought street tires.

The MB comp's that I just got weighed in at 20.5lbs on a digital scale... this was for the +27, the +17's (comps or weapons) would probably weight in at 21lbs if I was to guess, 28 seems way to high

What would you guys think of this setup?

Chassis- s13
Front fenders - 20mm Origin
Rear Fenders - Stock + pulled
Wheels - 17 x 9 +0

225/45 Front
255/40 Rear

I do not want a raked look. I am currently running 215/40 front (stretched and cambered in with factory fenders) and 225/45 rears with a nice pull and still have atleast 15mm of clearance till I hit the fender. I will pull more if i have to. My goal is mainly street traction as this car does not get tracked any more due to all the paint and body work going on it.

New setup, complete with garbage pics:







Enkei RPF-1, 17x9 +22
Falken RT-615s, 255/40/17

Pretty beefy, and not a problem to fit. The fronts BARELY touched spring perches of Apexi World Sports, but I threw a 5mm spacer on and all was well... could have gotten away with like a 2mm spacer and had enough room. Once I get the Konis on there shouldn't be any clearance issues.

I didn't get a chance to drive it since the car has a dead battery, but I'd probably have to tweak the front fenders a bit or add a little more camber (currently -2.5) so they don't rub until full load. Without the spacer, I probably wouldn't have to.

As a side note, these are lighter per wheel than my buddy's 17x7s with 205/40/17s on them.

awesome setup spool_sample, those look right at home on your S14.

with a lower offset like +35 you could have fit a 275 out back, any reason you didnt? tire roatation for wear? neutral handling?

(jealous of the clean white S14 on those wheels and tires though, hot damn thats cool as hell)

I prefer non-staggered, and I set-up the car around that. Tire rotation is a nice plus, though. When these wear out, I'll probably get 10mm spacers for the front and some wide fenders and run 275s all around.

Can somebody give me input on wheels? I'd like to run a 225/40-18 front and 295/30-18 rear stagger. This is similar to a 996 turbo setup.

I know the stagger is a little extreme but I really need it to put down the torque. My V8 crate motor is putting down well over 400 ft-lbs of torque right now out of the box, and that's before I get the cam, heads, and supercharger I'm planning to. I'd like to get around 700 hp.

If anything, I'd like to go up a little bit in the rear but availability gets a little scarce once you get above 305+ tread. The only good thing about it is I can get used tires from Porsche guys pretty easily. They swap out their tires at least once a month for no reason at all.


For the 225/40-18, would you guys recommend 8.5" or 9" wheels? I'm definitely running spacers so clearance is not a problem. I'd just like to get the tread to sit as squarely as possible so they don't roll on hard cornering. I looked and it's a little hard to find 18x9 wheels.

For the 295/30-18, I think I'd like an 11" wheel, but would it be better with a 10.5" wheel? My rear end practically weighs nothing and I like to run the rear suspension a tad soft any way.


Right now I'm still shopping so anything is subject to change, but any useful comments would be appreciated.

it all depends on what your trying to set the car up for... but if your really worried about the traction i would go with some 17s at most, 700hp from a v8 isnt going to be good on any street tire really

i would suggest getting some bigger tires in the front though, maybe try some 255s???

You won't, not with 295s in the rear. If you run 225s up front, you may have to run an awkward (and probably twitchy) chassis setup in order to get the car to turn. Obviously, a 240 is very different from a Porsche 911, so the optimal tire sizes for one car aren't going to work as well as they do on the other.

True that. I'd like more power but I don't think I can handle any more than that. Hell, even 500 is really pushing it. I'm just going to throw on cam and see how that works out for a season before supercharging it.

I like the Yokohomo Advan compound. Pretty good grip for a DOT tire.

the main thing i was talking about for the 255s would be to help with braking... upgrading to 14" brakes isnt worth it if you consider a good pair of pads/rotors in 13" will have no problem whatsoever completely stopping a 225 tire. i'm not going to tell you how to go since i dont have a whole lot of experience with road racing but i would suggest talking to someone like bill from DSG that has alot of experience with it.

With a 700 hp V8, you will be a rocket, and I'm guessing 225 fronts will get killed pretty quickly. Additionally, such a big stagger will probably feel really strange, as the tires will operate at pretty different slip angles and heat up at different rates.

225s suck go at least 255/40/17 up front.

You shouldn't worry about oversteer, you should worry about understeer and bad braking with such a small front tire, especially the one I think most would hate = turning fast + late braking at the same time = crash from understeer on such a bicycle tire.

In fact what you should worry about in helping your car handle better will be the suspension settings and dampers more than anything... you need grip in all corners. Bicycle tire bad, aaarnooold swatzineeggger tire win yaa especially on a heavy nose ended front engine car... Small tires front, fat tires rear work on midengine and rear engine cars... hence porsche 911s, zondas, what have you...

are you serious?

you aren't the first person to run a V8 in a 240SX. big power isn't why the 996 has that tire setup either.

you're gonna get 400ftlbs of torque, you're gonna shit yourself the first time you drive it, and its gonna get parked.

Put 275/40/17 on the front and 305/30/18 on the back. the car will probably understeer like fuck but you'll say its uncontrollable oversteer because throttle control is a mystery.

just because you have alot of power doesn't mean you need a small front tire.

it means you need to learn how to drive instead of stock KA hamfist "this is the momentum way around the track hurrr" *foot to floor into understeer*

You know I was thinking, one can always go less tire size rear and get traction control, yea yea, but just a thought, apparently pdm-racing does something along those lines and well they are a vendor for the Race-Logic Traction Control system www.pdm-racing.com

I don't want to really run non stagger, although I do that on my fwd car to induce oversteer hehe; don't really want understeer though :P
