Shop Review: Garage Boso (Gardena, CA)

I was mentioning this shop in my review of R&D, but I figure I would do the complete write up here:

I decided against a couple shops that were set to do my swap due to poor customer service (not returning phone calls to even get my car picked up, nada). So I called a couple friends, and had one reccommend a new shop in Gardena: Garage Boso. So he gave me their number and I spoke to one of the guys named Ross Petty, excellent guy, good sense of humor when I spoke with him. I called him on wednesday night and asked if he could do it. He said no problem, he'd come pick up the front clip the next day (Thursday). He had problems finding a truck to pick up the block from, but had a truck with a trailor by 2pm, and was at my friend's warehouse to pick up the front clip. Had it bolted down and we were on the road probably after an hour or so (We talked at the shop for awhile ).

We were down at the shop, as soon as he pulled in, he had 2 guys there, one with the fork lift to pull it off, the others getting a spot inside ready. As soon as that front clip hit the floor, there was already someone working on it, disconnecting hoses and such from it to pull the motor out. They said give em a couple days and it would be done. Had a chance to meet the other guys working there, most notable was Frank Siharath, formerly from racetune in norcal, who appearantly had alot of experience with supras and rx7's (as well as hondas and such), not just doing installs, but tuning, ranging from sit in the passanger seat doing runs on the freeway, or full on dyno time.

Friday comes, I picked up a few parts I needed to get put on as well (fuel pump, exhaust, and other misc parts, few things that don't exactly come with a front clip). Some parts took longer than others to get in stock for what I wanted, but that's irrelevant . Nothing from the shop, I'm not tripping, it hasn't even been 24 hours, and its New Year's Eve weekend, and they were planning on moving to a bigger shop right across the way. I figured there would be a few delays... Just a couple.

Anyways, Saturday rolls around, and around 2pm I get a phone call from him: "Your car is just about done, do you have the parts you wanted put on?" I'm in complete shock right now, and completely impressed. I told him I was waiting on a couple and would drop em off later, he said no problem, and his paint guy wanted to talk to me. Paint guy was on the phone, gave me full quote on body work / paint that needed to be done. Basically gave me a long list of options I had to choose from as far as what I wanted, if I wanted a $1000 paint job or a $4000 paint job, he'd do whatever I wanted. So I worked out those details with him, he said straight up he had one car ahead of me, but once that was done, he'd start on mine.

Few delays later, car was done 100% turn-key job's done on Thursday (1/18), however most of that time, the car was just at the shop waiting for me to get my shit together (100% my fault on that ^^). Paint guy said he'll be done by this Thursday and the car will be done (pictures will follow when it's done).

Pricing was excellent, work was fast and with no complaints. Their guys were never too busy to pick up the phone and answer questions, and they still manage to turn cars out at a pretty impressive speed (IMO). 100% happy with their customer service, and they even sat on the phone to help me diagnose a problem on my friend's FD. Not just a swap shop, they made it work with whatever I gave them. To add, the front clip I bought was lightly modded, including a reflashed japanese ECU. I've seen other shops (like R&D) completely fail making the car run with that. These guys made it work. 100% happy with these guys.

+1 for Garage Boso as well! I met with Frank and Ross and they're always there help me out with my car when I have just stupid questions that need answering even though I didn't get my SR20 installed by them.

Frank is actually a great tuner too. I know he can do AEM, Motec, and Power FC.

Not bashing or anything but Rather den spending a fortune at Marco. (Sr20store) Marco does really clean job also but hes cost is way over i think
Im pretty sure that boso's garage tunes really good since they always tune there falcon car that they have.

I also had a really good experience with them with quality of work. My only problem with them is after I dropped off the car, they just kept adding on to the price they quoted me, which came out to be over $500 of the original estimate over the phone. That was a little frustrating.

Second complaint is that when they redid my wiring harness, they didn't hook up the line to my A/C, which is something I did want. Very minor thing in the grand scope, but it's something where I'd have to pull the chassis harness and do it again, which again, is a little annoying.

Overall I'd recommend them over 90% of the shops out there, because your car will come out running well (not a hack job like a few other shops that shall remain nameless at this time... :P)

Frank is up north. Ross is trying to get his new car ready for this season. I was there last night while he was painting. Oh yea, the radio is always blasting so maybe he didnt hear the phone. Just try during the afternoon/night.
