Silvia likes to party!! Progression Thread High Compression SR20!!!!

Was thinking of making a build thread... But this car has been through so much I decided to make a Progression Thread.

I bought my car in spring of 2008. At the time was my 5th S-chassis( ive had 14 S-chassis), I chose the Silvia because it was the cheapest option to get a rust free chassis.

So in 2008 the car started out as my daily driver/ weekend drift car. It had Stance coils, welded diff, Bee R dual tip exhaust and thats it

Driving with Dave Briggs in his first S14

even winter drove it, crashed it a bunch of times

In 2009 I started doing alot more drift events. I also was Pit Crew for Dave Briggs in DMCC. We added a bunch of new parts to the car, OS Giken twin disk, 5 lug, Custom high mount setup, gt2871r etc etc

This was my first competition. DMCC Pro-am... finished 3rd

Added Aero

Painted Car AMC Big bad green

Drifted around with Pat Cyr

Decided to build race car

In 2010 we were building the car for DMCC Pro, alot of work needed to be done to turn my Street Car into a "race car"... Sponsors Joined the team such as, Auto Select Tuning, U2NDyno, Visual Sugar, Mississauga engines, JRP, Diamond one stop auto body..
we added even more parts... AST knuckles, new engine, external waste gate, AST turbo back exhaust, AST intercooler setup, Roll cage, Megan multi link, Sparco safety equipment, Kazz 2 way, new truck and trailer, etc etc

first thing was we stripped the car down, Then my buddy Pat Cyr and I put this sweet cage in my car.

painted the interior "East coast grey"

cut the front end off...

put a silly "bash bar". got the car tuned, made 386whp at 18psi after a U2NDyno tune.

getting prepped at DIAMOND one stop auto body

Auto Select Tuning made me a sweet exhaust, here is just the tip.

Painted the car Nimbus Blue

So we finished the car early. a full month before DMCC round 1, the first event of XDC at Irwindale was going down a week after we tested my car out. So I flew down to California to help my Bro out in the Pits.

we did some site seeing

I sat on a cannon

We won round one XDC round one. (Daves first podium)

the next day we drove down to Willow springs and competed in just drift and took home 1st place again.

got home, Visual Sugar did a quick redo of the Sticker layout

So we get to DMCC round 1. we spent all our money getting the car to this point... so we cut corners and used, used tires... NEVER AGAIN IN COMPETITION... such a rookie mistake... on my fifth practice lap I entered in and had zero grip, for the life of me I couldn't slow the car down... leading to this...

We stayed up all night fixing the car at AV Fabrications in Laval, Quebec
at about 2am we had the car all back together. to only find out that we also blew the engine due to a throttle body screw.

the next day im sure you can tell how i was feeling...

We missed DMCC round 2. We partnered up with Mississauga Engine, they provided me with a stock rebuild and re fresh. Brought the car to DIAMOND to get pulled.

we got the car "fixed" and went out to test the new engine

We showed up to DMCC round 3 with this...

on my first qualifing lap I sheared 3rd gear. and we couldnt fix the car in
time.

Maintaining the car was killing me, i couldn't afford it with the job i had at the time. so i missed a few events and did some fun events. needed to get my confidence back..

cleaned the car up alittle bit... we added an external waste gate in hopes to make the car have more response. got it re tuned. it made 419whp at 20 psi
car was way more fun

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GghA19sGH38

we made it to round 5

everyone signed my trunk

did some drifting

more crashing

now that all the comp stuff was over. i just wanted to have fun. we brought the car to Shannonville. i absolutely took all my anger on the car out on it this day. we both started respecting eachother. half way through the day i sheared another 3rd gear. so i drifted the rest of the day in 2nd and 4th

2011 Build

2011 came around. Our team learned a lot about car setup and basically opened my eyes to the world of Competitive drifting. Its a whole different ball game than just drifting a corner or two on the streets or track. We took what we learned and went out to build a even better car.
For 2011, Auto Select Tuning, U2NDyno, Mississauga Engines, DIAMOND one stop auto body, Visual Sugar and JRP Continued to support us!! And new to the team was HSD suspension, PRO racing fuels, Centerline motorsports and KENDA tire.

The Silvia got pretty messed up in 2010... So first off was to get the car straight. We dropped the car off at DIAMOND and put it on the frame machine.

we wanted to make the car easier to fix when we did crash. so I pulled out the Plasma cutter and started cutting. I ended up with a big hole where my car use to be. haha

We wanted to have more tq out of our Sr20. so we Sent the Engine over to Mississauga Engines and got a full rebuild, Eagle rods, 10:1 Arias pistons, new head gasket, shimmed oil pump, arp mains and head studs, new bearings, cut all the valves, new valve guides and seals, etc etc

10:1 pistons should help her down low

here was the finished product. was nice

The rear end was done by Centerline motorsports

I made a pretty sweet rear fire wall using a piece of wood and a hammer

I decided to ditch the lame East coast grey interior, and went with something more my style

after the rear end was completed I gave it a quick coat of Satin black

then started assembling the fuel system

decided to ditch the old turbo setup in favor of a top mount t3 setup. We ended up using a Precision 5557 ball bearing and a precision 46mm wastegate

after the turbo arrived. Auto Select Tuning went right to work designing the new turbo Setup. It turned out amazing.

small little details

With all the extra power. we Decided to do a Z32 transmission conversion. no more braking weak little girl sr transmissions for me.

Was time to the front end. I wanted to do bash bars because we all know the car liked to get banged up. So back to Centerline I went.

added a S14 kouki front end

this was the finished product. a maze of tube and tabs.

Around this time I lifted my DD/ tow rig 3" all around and added some wheels and tires. I love straight piped duramax's

Since the front end was all completed the car went back to Auto Select Tuning for the intercooler setup. As always they did an amazing job. i really loved how it turned out.

now that all the fabrication was completed. I tore the car back down. Painted the front end and Installed the new HSD Suspension

I ditched the stock gauge cluster and made my own

straight outta Nascar haha

made a fancy little wire harness

put the interior back together

Bought some Enkei Wheels and started final assemble

Buttoned up everything on the car. we missed round 1 and 2 of DMCC because we didn't manage our time properly. BUT the car turned out great. didnt even have time to paint the car, But I liked the look. Visual Sugar cut us some quick stickers. Was supposed to be just a temp job.

We were a week away from DMCC round 3 and still needed to tune the car. Dan from U2NDyno was on vacation that week and was returning Thursday. we had to leave friday at noon. we were cutting it close...

Love this! It's so nice to see an SR in a built drift car again! So sick of this V8 epidemic spreading around like a goddamn virus.

How do you keep breaking 3rd gear?

2011 competition

So with one day left till we had to leave for DMCC Round 3. We brought the car to U2NDyno to get tuned. I remember being so excited, finally all the hard work will pay off... Dan started to do some pulls, The car sounded soooo healthy. it was making real good power. well over 400hp at 15psi. we were slowly stepping up the boost. Dan started doing a 19psi pull, at the end of the pull I hear a huge bang then the car starting sputtering... and the engine started to smoke... I know this sound I thought to myself, but I didnt think this could happen to my fresh engine. After further diagnosis I found that the Cyl 4 injector failed and leaned out the piston, melting it. it only had 50psi rather than the 190psi we started with...

I was pretty upset. We missed round 3...

I Needed to get the car fixed. It needed to be on the track to represent my Sponsors. My pistons are custom ordered and take 2 months to get. so I put together a stock engine with parts i had laying around. piston from this engine, rod from that, used bearing... MINT.....

I figured I cant wait around for 2 months, so we pulled the expensive paper weight out if the car, and put in this zombie graveyard engine in. I loaded the tune on from 2010 setup and slightly tuned it on the street...

So we head out to DMCC round 4. We havent drifted the car yet, havent tested the engine, we were soo prepared.

So we get there, unload everything, get my suit on and it just starts pouring! I remember thinking WTF. I hate driving in the rain... slow drifting is uncool...

But it only lasted about 20 mins and started clearing up.

So i get in the car and start driving to the grid. I was getting scared again, Last year I crashed the car real good my first event, so that was on my mind plus driving in front of thousands of fans does really hit you mentally. but once i got to the starting line and launched the car it all went away. I missed the car SO much. It was driving real good, the power was amazing, and it was quick. my tires sucked but whatever they were new.

We started qualifying. my first run was decent, i put down a good enough run to get up in the show. on my second run i went in pretty fast but had some bobbles here and there. but i ended up qualifying 9th.

In top 16 i went up against my Team mate Pat Cyr. he qualified higher so he lead, his car has alot of grip so he gaped me by a few cars but he wasnt loosing me. we finished the run. we both had errors but i was pumped.

On my lead run i went pretty fast into the first corner, but at the 4th clipping point Pat spun. but as i was crossing the last clip my car started spuddering again!! my car was full of smoke from tire and blown engine. they awarded pat the win for some reason. i still dont understand why but i wasnt worried about that. I was worried about the bad luck i was having with engines.

I did however won the Fastest entry award for that event. that was cool

With round 4 over we returned home and pulled off the head to see whats up. this is what we found.

we pulled the front cross member, pulled the lower part of the engine apart and removed the piston and rod.

within a few mins we put in a newish piston and rod.

I also got some rear Quarter damage from the last event. My Truck made quick work of that!

it was a quick fix and we were back running. DMCC round 5 was the next weekend, Drift ops was holding a drift event at shannonville so we decided to bring the car to try new suspension setups and stuff. We get there, pull the car out and start rippin.

on maybe my 6th lap i was hitting limiter in third and all of a sudden a grenade went off in my engine bay. my drive train locked up. pieces of my engine covered the track. I broke a rod and it went right through the block...

At this point I just laughed and grabbed a beer or 12, this car was killing me, I wanted to give up but I couldn't. I couldn't let my Sponsors down.

The engine was junk. head was toast. block was uhhh yeaaa...

So back home we went. on the way home I was calling around to source a short block. ended up finding one for $300 that needed bearings. Put new bearings in it. re used the apexi headgasket for the 7th time haha. and she was good as new.

Dmcc Round 5 was that weekend. it was our home track. Its a pretty technical track but i loved it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lWgeESJ0Y0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcdeNI5r494

I was driving real good this event, here is one of my qualifying runs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBB2xzN8bm0
that run was good enough to Qualify 6th

top 16 ceremonies I like 2nd gear burnouts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFT9bwe9P_w

top 16 i went against Bob Patinka I messed up my lead run. I didnt warm up my tires and was a slop fest. bob got the win.

Dont Dave Briggs and I look cute

DMCC vs XDC round 6

I Started using Kenda Tires at this event, they were such an improvement from the last tire i was using!!

This event was fun, my fastest entry speed was 88mph

this event sucked tho. this was the track i crashed at in 2010. but we wernt running that layout. it was also raining the whole event. on and off, we were switching from rain set up to dry all day. practice wasnt very long.

the hooptie SR was still running strong

I didnt do very well in qualifying. something like 16th out of 32.. but what ever.

my top 16 battle was weird. i absolutely destroyed my lead lap. on my follow lap i was close to him the whole time, he brake checked me on the transition soo hard i had to hit my brakes so i didnt hit him. I straightened, he got the win, thinking back i should have just hit him... oh well next time

My good buddy is on his 4th time and still holding like new.

Also glad to see your still staying with the SR after everything.
