Those fittings look awesome, but what is the benefit of that type of fitting over regular an style?

Definitely will need Earls Speed Flex lines for something like that.

I suppose I could have said "or something similar" I've always dealt with Earls so I don't intend on switching unless I go Swagelok

Yeah, my old setup was all Earls... nice stuff naturally. I had zero complaints. But the XRP stuff is better and actually cheaper... with WAAAYYY more options.

Why do you say it's better? Because of the options? The way I see it, Earls and Russels are kinda like Snap-on vs. cornwell tools, etc. Both do the job, both are highest quality, it's just your preference. Seems that way with XRP, perhaps, but I seriously doubt they are better in terms of quality; equal? probably, but better? common

Take XRP's braided nylon hose for example: it has an embedded layer of braided stainless under the nylon braid... Earl's Pro-Lite 350 does not. Little things like that... for less money to boot. You would have to step up to Earls Pro-Lite Ultra to get the stainless inner braid... which is even more money than the 350. It also seems to have a nicer/tighter braid to the nylon. I need to get out some of my old Earls to confirm that though. But generally speaking, I assume a fitting is a fitting. So I guess not so much better in quality but better in the amount of choices... and still cheaper in price.

Well that's consistent across brands. While XRP's HS-79 hose has a larger ID than their XR-31 hose, Earls' 650 hose has a larger ID than their 350 hose.

I wouldn't go that far... it's not anything that someone can't just go look up on their websites. Now if you want to talk car audio, then I'll drop some knowledge I don't claim to be an expert in anything else though.

I guess I did mis-read then. I thought your intention was to run the car without A/C during one summer since it was Illinois (I had thought you said), and then see if you felt like installing the A/C would be needed. I dunno, I must have mis-understood. Anyway, your center vent gauges, how did you seal up the heater/ac ducts behind them? I need to seal mine up as well.

Simply just block it off with a piece of ABS or wood etc, then some duct tape or the like to keep it in place. If you want to permanently block it off then you would simply glue the block off plate in place.

Not sure, depends on what brand of oil filter you are using. I talked to XRP about this and they said most guys with street cars/slight track run the 75 micron screen.

Ya, well the reason for the prolite is that they sell it on the basis for it being something like 30% lighter, therefore no metal usually means lighter product. As is with their diamond lite hose. IDK if that XRP stuff is trying to market that product you speak of as a lighter product. And with the Earls speedflex hose, you can buy that with PVC coating Just saying that there seem to be similar options between the two... but if the price is your issue, then obviously go for the economical route. Either way, I'll look into the stuff; I'm redoing some goodies on my POS.

As far as quality is concerned, I thought you were trying to say something like they are machined down to the exact dimension for mil-spec threads, since there are tolerance windows for mil-spec and not-so mil-spec, obviously mil-spec being a tighter window.

Would silicone sealant (since it's waterproof and is supposed to last 50yrs) be better to use? Where can I buy ABS plastic? I guess at a car audio shop since I've never seen it at my local Home Depot or Lowes.

I think he was talking about blocking off something in the dash, which I wouldn't be too worried about paint there. Now if he means holes in the fire wall, what I do is take a flat piece of CF, cut it to size and use a gasketmaker and it seals fine.

please excuse my ignorance but what is CF? carbon fiber? for plugging firewall holes? also what is this 'gasket maker' you speak of?

thanks!

I bought an ABS sheet thing off of Amazon for like 8 bucks. Pretty big too. Like 2'x3'.

You can buy ABS from a stereo shop or simply online like ^he^ posted. You can use 1/4" wood, acrylic, plexi, sheet metal, hell cardboard. All you're trying to do is block off the duct work... doesn't need to be fancy. I think I may have just used a couple layers of duct tape on one of my cars. It's not like you are ever going to see it.

Yes, I was referring to the blocking of the plastic vent area in the middle of the dash since I have three gauges mounted there. I get condensation inside of my gauges at times, hence why I wanted some ABS plastic and not wood or cardboard. I'll just pull the gauges and put use a piece of ABS with silicone there to block it off.

Man, you guys are really over thinking this. Just stuff something in there to block it off and call it a day. Like I said, I'm pretty sure I simply duct taped mine off... zero issues and took less than 2 minutes. I guess we can create a separate thread for it if we need to... I'm such an ass.

Nice build. Have always enjoyed your clean oem styling, its the only way to go. This build looks great and for around 25k, that's a steal if you ask me. The only thing I can hate on is that dudes blackhawks hat, the hawks suck. BEEEEELFOOORRRRE! BEEEEELFOOOORRRRE! Haha the good ol' days. Good luck with the build.
