Parts Shop MAX Super Angle Steering Knuckles

Featured in JULY 2009 drift tengoku new parts section!

NEWS UPDATE: WE ARE NOW TESTING MODS TO GET
55 DEGREES
OF NECK SNAPPING ANGLE!!!

We are currently shipping the Super angle kit with 52 drgrees of steering angle center to lock with no additional parts or modifications needed!

From my experience with the Parts shop MAX Super Angle Steering knuckle set I honestly think this is the most important modification for drifting since LSD and coilovers.

Our other thread is almost 80 pages long - you may get lost in there so I felt compelled to dedicate a thread to this exciting product that is sure to take you to the next level of the sport.

MAX SUPER ANGLE KIT - Now available as parts kit only for $250 shipped -or- $375 installed on your OEM S chassis parts + shipping
We used to only sell the knuckle conversion parts with installation labor due to the large liability of relying upon our customers to do get the job done correctly. However due to overwhelming demand from professional drift shops & fabricators, we are adding another option.

If you agree in writing that you will both have a professional welding service perform the work, and also that you will indemnify Parts Shop MAX and take full responsibility for any injury, death or property damage resulting from the installation of our parts then we will send the MAX Super Angle Kit to you without the labor portion of the conversion and related shipping expenses to get your OEM parts to us.

This can be a huge relief of downtime & double shipping costs making the conversion quite a bit more convenient for those who have access to a local professional welding service. We will happily continue to service those who do not have access to professional welding services with the same speed, quality, and reasonable pricing that many have relied upon in the past.

This parts only option is especially helpful to our international customers who would need to spend a considerable amount to get the job done.

The MAX Super angle kit (parts only) is just $250 shipped.
Includes:
  • 1 Pair of MAX super angle knuckle box extensions
  • 1 pair MAX Adjustable LCA bump stops
  • 1 Pair of MAX super angle tie rod spacers
  • 4 CNC lower arm gussets

The MAX Super angle kit with parts and labor is $400 plus shipping.
Includes all above parts plus the following as seen below:
  • Removal of OEM knuckle bump stops
  • Welding of CNC part to your OEM knuckles
  • Clean and Paint finished knuckles
  • Cut off OEM LCA bump stops and cut notch for MAX bump stop
  • Welding of adjustable bump stop to your OEM lower arm (or aftermarket arms)
  • Completely box in OEM Lower arm with machined reinforcements
  • Clean and paint finished lower control arm
  • 1 day turn around time in most cases

Static angle as measured on our shop guage from center to lock :
MAX Super angle kit = 1.25 turns & 52 degrees
OEM = 1.5 turns and 36 degrees

*max angle at speed is increased
*wheel well clearancing is needed for max angle

*NO CLOWNS! Seriously kids, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! These parts are to only be installed by a professional with years of experience in welding and custom auto parts fabrication!

We only work on your parts - The parts you send are the parts we mod and send back therefore you dont have to worry about getting someone elses questionable cores!

This is the third version for the S chassis utilizing all of our testing experience to date.

After installation.

Drifting Performance: The MAX super angle kit will take your drifting to the next level!

My review from the poweredbymax.net forum:

I had the opportunity to track test these things at Horse thief mile and balcony yesterday. I have to say this is like a whole new world for drifting. They are that good. While it doesn't take any time to get used to the knuckles on the street, It defenately takes at least 1 full day at the track to get confident with the new posibilities that are presented to you by having nearly infinite counter steer. At first I didn't really know what to do when I drifted past an angle I never drifted at before so my first reaction was to lift which made me spin so next I tried to mash the gas when I was in the new angle zone and it worked beautifully. Once I realy got used to it I noticed all kinds of things:
The input on the steering wheel at initiation is refreshingly reduced.
The old heavyness and reduced control at and around full lock is gone.
Its just as easy to countersteer at a maximum angle of attack as any other steering angle.
I have more control over the car when I'm not whipping my hands around the steering wheel like before.
A flick of the wrist pretty much covers most input reqirements on the track.
If you do spin around which is harder to do, the turning radius is so tight that you don't have to grab the e-brake to do a 180 to get going the right direction on a narrow course.
The reduced input actually works both ways so when you let go of the wheel to let it correct, it does not spin as much or as hard as before.
There is more control and precision coming out of a big fast drift on to a straight because you need to slowly unwind the counter steer when you lift the throttle a bit, and the reduced turns of the wheel allow you to do it with more grace.
When coming from a straight throwing the car sideways into turn you can be as aggressive as you want with the angle because the counter steer is there to back you up.
When you do hit the bump stop which is almost impossible now its more of a light tap then a WHAM like before.
Its almost impossible to hit the bumpstop and maintain a drift because when you actually hit the bumpstop now you are at such a ridiculous angle you are looking over your shoulder to see where you are going.

I'm not just creating hype, its really that good. This changes everything. I definitely recommend this part not just for you animal drifters but for beginners too because it just makes everything easier. I think grip racers will like this too.

One more thing, about the two holes, its easier to learn - a more understated change to use the first hole, but if you don't use the second hole you're missing out on the maxumum potential of this modification.

NOW AVAILABLE, super angle for the FC RX7's:

FC pix with the required mazdaspeed race angle kit

NOW AVAILABLE super angle for Z32 and R33:

NOW AVAILABLE for R32:

***APPLICATION UPDATE We've finished the first Parts Shop MAX Super Steering Angle Knuckle for FD!

First, I'd like to say thanks to Mazda RX7 | Owners, Parts, Repair, Performance, Mods, Wheels - RX7Club.com members BUDGETSLASHCRY for being brave enough to sacrifice his knuckles, second I'd like to thank local member CAREDDEN for being nice enough to drop his car off for a day to help verify some measurements. Because of both of you guys we have made something truely unique, and we were also able to verify compatibility with readily available & inexpensive parts for Nissan 240sx S14.

Important notes:
> Uses S14 Inner tie rod and s14 tie rod angle spacer
> OEM FD inner is OK but you must clean and use loctite on the rack side threads if the OEM rod is used with a spacer. Outer threads may need to be cut for use with longer s14 outer tie rod end...
> Must have S14 Outer tie rod (oem or aftermarket style are OK)
> Sway bar clears (unlike FC)
> Overall angle is determined by how low the wheel offset is because limiting factor is the LCA (example 18x9+45 or some other wheel size where it already almost touches the LCA = there is no additional angle to be had)
> Geometry still needs to be verified on track to see if there is any further changes needed before we would be willing sell this to others however we are all jiged up to produce this mod if all is well.

The key points that makes the Parts Shop MAX knuckles better is
1 - Our design uses one solid piece of CNC billet steel for the box section
2 - No cutting of the OEM knucke, the structure is left entirely in tact
3 - There are three separate welded connections one on top and two on the bottom of the OEM arm
4 - Designed for eliminating bump steer on super low cars
5 - Two taper hole tie rod end mounts so that you can tune the quickness of your steering for the best feel
6 - Any hacked knuckle can give more angle but the secret to the cars drifting performance is all about the ackerman angle which is why we do such extensive testing to make sure you get the most control and performance by choosing parts shop MAX.

We recommend and sell the Ikeya Formula S14 inner tie rods because they are the best in the business. According to Drift tengoku you can bend these in a U shape and they still wont snap! We have been asked about a million times when MAX is going to make tie rods, & tie rod ends and the answer is never as long as the Ikeya Formula ones are this cheap, and the fact is that all the japanese guys (at PSM in Shizuoka) rock OEM S14 rod ends, and thats available at your local dealer. Only 1 set left in stock now, but they sell like hotcakes at $120 so I'll get more 4 sure.

Lemme rephrase...

I know this is possible to do to a Z32, but can you do it? It's a very similar set up to that of an R-chassis.
